The Volume Cluster Support & Resistance indicator identifies key market levels using volume-based Point of Control (POC) clustering or price pivots. By analyzing areas of high trading activity, it detects significant zones where the price is likely to find support or resistance, offering a dynamic view of market structure.

Usage

This tool can be used to identify potential reversal points or breakout zones. When the "Volume Based" method is selected, the indicator scans historical data for high-volume bars and groups their POCs into clusters. Clusters formed below the current price are identified as Support (green), while those above are Resistance (magenta).

Users can utilize the "Zone Visualization" feature to see these levels as filled areas rather than single lines, providing a more realistic representation of market interest. The "Historical Reactions" feature (when enabled) marks past instances where the price bounced or rejected from these levels, helping traders validate the strength of specific zones.

Details

The indicator offers two distinct calculation modes:

  • Volume Based: Focuses on high-volume activity. It identifies bars where volume exceeds a moving average threshold and clusters their midpoint (hl2) prices based on ATR-defined proximity.
  • Pivot Based: Uses traditional price pivots confirmed by volume. This method highlights significant turning points in price action where volume was also elevated.

The clustering logic requires a minimum number of high-volume bars (Min Bars in Cluster) to validate a zone, ensuring that only areas with sustained interest are displayed.

Settings

Calculation Method

  • S/R Calculation Method: Select between "Pivot Based" (price action turns) or "Volume Based" (high-volume clusters).

Volume Zone Settings

  • High Volume Threshold Multiplier: Sets the sensitivity for detecting high-volume bars.
  • Clustering Lookback: The number of bars to scan for volume clusters.
  • Cluster Proximity (ATR): The vertical distance (relative to volatility) used to group separate price points into one cluster.
  • Min Bars in Cluster: The minimum bar count required to form a valid level.

Display Options

  • Show S/R Levels: Toggles visibility of the lines/zones.
  • Show Price Tag: Displays price labels on the right axis.
  • Number of S/R Levels to Display: Limits the amount of support and resistance levels shown on the chart.

Style Settings

  • Line Style: Choose between Solid, Dashed, or Dotted lines.
  • Line Extension: Determines if levels extend to the left, right, or both sides of the chart.
  • Support/Resistance Colors: Customize the visual appearance of the levels.

Zone Visualization

  • Use Zone Visualization: Toggles between single lines and filled ATR-based zones.
  • Zone Width (ATR Multiplier): Adjusts the vertical thickness of the zones.

FAQ

How do I interpret the different calculation methods? The "Volume Based" method identifies "value" areas where heavy trading occurred, whereas the "Pivot Based" method identifies psychological price extremes where the trend reversed on high volume.

Can I change how sensitive the volume detection is? Yes, by adjusting the "High Volume Threshold Multiplier," you can make the indicator more or less selective regarding which bars contribute to the formation of clusters.
