Simple Buy and Sell Signals
Aug 15, 2022

The Simple Buy and Sell Signals indicator provides a comprehensive trend-following toolkit by combining MACD, SSL Channel, EMA, and ADX filters to identify potential market entries. It aims to help traders find high-confluence setups by merging momentum oscillators with trend baselines and volatility filters.
Usage
The indicator can be used to identify both trend-reversal and trend-continuation signals across various timeframes. Users should look for the primary "BUY" and "SELL" labels which are generated through the interaction of the SSL Channel and the trend-defining EMA.
- Strong Signals (Triangles): These appear when a MACD crossover occurs in alignment with the broader trend, providing momentum-based entries.
- Weak Signals (Circles): These represent minor pullbacks or counter-trend momentum shifts and are often best used as secondary confirmation.
- SSL Channel: When enabled, the SSL Channel provides a visual baseline for the short-term trend. Crosses in this channel trigger the main buy/sell labels.
- Filtering: Users can toggle the EMA and ADX filters to reduce noise. For example, using the EMA filter ensures that buy signals only appear when price is above the 200-period EMA, maintaining a bullish bias.
Details
The script functions by integrating several classic technical analysis concepts:
- MACD: Used for momentum detection. The indicator tracks crossovers between the MACD line and the Signal line.
- SSL Channel: A high/low moving average-based channel used to determine short-term trend direction.
- EMA Filter: Acts as a long-term trend filter (defaulting to 200 periods) to ensure trades are taken in the direction of the primary trend.
- ADX Filter: Measures trend strength to help avoid consolidation zones where many false signals typically occur.
Settings

- Show Strong Signals: Enables the display of triangle shapes for primary momentum signals.
- ADX filter: Toggles the Average Directional Index filter to restrict signals based on trend strength.
- ADX level: Sets the threshold for the ADX filter (default 15).
Baselines & Oscillators
- EMA: Sets the length and color for the main trend EMA.
- Oscillator MA Type: Chooses between SMA and EMA for the internal MACD calculation.
- Signal Line MA Type: Chooses the MA type for the MACD signal line.
