AMD Session Structure Levels
Feb 7, 2025

The AMD Session Structure Levels indicator provides a systematic framework for analyzing market structure by identifying manipulation zones, distribution targets, and probability-based reversal or continuation conditions. Using ATR-normalized session data, it classifies market environments to help traders distinguish between trend and range-bound sessions.
Usage
The script is primarily used to identify institutional "Accumulation, Manipulation, and Distribution" (AMD) patterns within specific trading sessions.
- Manipulation Zones: When price approaches the upper or lower manipulation levels (plotted in a faded blue color), traders look for signs of price rejection. These levels represent the average extent of manipulative "wicks" relative to the session open.
- Distribution Targets: The distribution levels (plotted in solid blue) serve as primary profit targets or areas where price is expected to gravitate after a manipulation phase is completed.
- Market Classification: The tool analyzes the wick-to-body ratio to determine if the day is likely a "Trend Day" (low ratio) or a "Range Day" (high ratio). This helps in adjusting risk appetite and expected take-profit distances.
- Probability Table: The real-time dashboard displays the current session's wick ratio and classifies the likely outcome as a "Reversal" or "Continuation" based on historical percentiles.
Details
This tool utilizes several advanced components to quantify market behavior:
- Dual Tracking System: It monitors both fixed session levels and real-time extremes to differentiate between temporary spikes and sustained price acceptance.
- Probability Engine: It employs a circular buffer to store historical wick ratios over a user-defined lookback period. This allows the indicator to calculate conditional probabilities for current price movement based on past session behavior.
- Volatility Adaptation: Unlike static levels, the manipulation and distribution levels are dynamically calculated using the Average True Range (ATR), ensuring they expand and contract with current market volatility.
Settings
Session Settings
- Session Hours: Defines the specific time range for the analysis (e.g., "0830-1500").
- Active Days: Specifies which days of the week the script should process (Monday-Friday is represented as 2-6).
- Show Sessions: Toggles the visibility of session-based level plots.
Analysis Parameters
- Lookback Period: Determines the number of previous sessions used to calculate average manipulation/distribution levels and probabilities.
- Market Condition Filter: Allows users to filter historical data based on "Trend" or "Range" environments to refine the output levels.
- Trend/Range Threshold: Sets the wick-to-body ratio limit used to classify market conditions (default is 0.25).
- Show Probability Table: Toggles the on-chart dashboard.
FAQ
How do I access AMD Session Structure Levels?
You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.
What do the different levels on the chart represent?
The levels branching from the session open represent the expected manipulation zones (where "fakeouts" often occur) and distribution zones (where the real move of the session typically targets).
Why does the probability table change during the session?
The table updates in real-time as the session's high, low, and current price change, constantly recalculating the wick ratio and comparing it to historical data to provide an updated outlook on whether the session will trend or reverse.
