The Vamp's Six Simple Moving Averages tool provides a consolidated view of six distinct simple moving averages to streamline trend analysis and help traders identify key dynamic support and resistance levels on a single chart.

Usage

The Usage of this indicator focuses on identifying trend confluence and potential reversal points. By plotting six different periods simultaneously, traders can observe how short-term price action interacts with long-term trends.

  • Trend Identification: When shorter-term MAs (e.g., 7 or 30) are positioned above longer-term MAs (e.g., 100 or 200), the market is generally considered to be in a bullish phase.
  • Support and Resistance: The various SMA lines often act as dynamic floors or ceilings. Traders frequently look for price bounces off the 50-period or 200-period SMAs to confirm entries.
  • Price Crossovers: The tool includes alerts for when price crosses any of the six enabled averages. This can be used to signal momentum shifts or the start of a new trend.

Details

The script is a refactored and visually updated version of the original concept by @Gr8rOutdoors, optimized for modern charting environments. It calculates each Simple Moving Average (SMA) using the standard sum of prices over a specified period divided by that period.

The default lengths (7, 30, 50, 100, 128, and 200) are configured based on the specific trading setup used by @ChartVampire. The indicator utilizes the ta.sma function for calculations and includes conditional logic to only render and calculate alerts for the specific moving averages enabled by the user in the settings menu.

Settings

  • Enable [1st-6th] MA: Toggles the visibility and calculation of the respective moving average line on the chart.
  • MA [1-6] Length: Sets the lookback period (number of bars) used to calculate the Simple Moving Average.
  • MA [1-6] Source: Specifies the price input used for the calculation, such as Close, Open, High, Low, hlc3, or ohlc4.

FAQ

Can I use different periods for the moving averages? Yes, all six moving average lengths are fully customizable in the settings menu to fit your specific trading strategy or time horizon.

Do the alerts trigger immediately when the price touches the line? The alerts are configured to trigger once per bar close. This ensures that the price has officially crossed the moving average before an alert is sent, reducing noise from temporary price wicks.
