The Trendline Breakout with Volume Confirmation indicator detects bearish trendline channels and highlights potential breakout events with optional volume verification.

Usage

The indicator automatically identifies descending trendlines by analyzing consecutive lower pivot highs. These structures are extended forward until a breakout occurs. A breakout is confirmed when the closing price exceeds the upper boundary of the trendline by a user-defined percentage.

This tool is particularly useful for:

  • Identifying Bearish Channels: Automatically mapping out descending price action.
  • Confirming Breakouts: Using price action and optional volume metrics to validate trend changes.
  • Visualizing Future Zones: Projecting active trendlines into the future to identify potential resistance areas.

Details

The script uses pivot highs to anchor the trendlines. It calculates a slope based on these points and monitors the relationship between the current closing price and the expected trendline value.

Users can choose between two visualization modes:

  • Channel: Displays the full area between the trendline and its lower boundary, providing a clear view of the trading range.
  • Polygon: Renders the structure as a solid geometric shape, which is helpful for distinguishing overlapping channels on a crowded chart.

Settings

Main Settings

  • Channel/Polygon: Toggles the visual representation between a full channel area or a polygon structure.
  • Volume % Bar: Enables a visual bar at the breakout location to show normalized volume strength.
  • Breakout %: The minimum percentage the price must close above the trendline to trigger a breakout signal.
  • Slope Factor: Determines the required steepness of the detected trendline.
  • Pivot Length: The number of bars used to identify pivot high points.
  • Volume % Breakout: The minimum relative volume required to display the volume confirmation bar.
