Volume Breakout Trading System
May 14, 2019

The Volume Breakout Trading System indicator identifies potential trend reversals and momentum shifts by detecting significant surges in trading volume relative to price action. It serves as a tool for traders looking to capture high-conviction breakout moves confirmed by market participation.
Usage
The Volume Breakout Trading System provides visual signals on the chart to indicate potential entry points based on volume spikes and price position.
- Buy Signal: A "BUY" label appears below the bar when volume is at least 1.5 times the previous bar's volume, the price is above the moving average, and volume is above its long-term average.
- Sell Signal: A "SELL" label appears above the bar when volume is at least 1.5 times the previous bar's volume, the price is below the moving average, and volume is above its long-term average.
- Trend Filtering: The plot color changes based on the price relation to the moving average (green for bullish, red for bearish), helping users stay on the right side of the immediate trend.
Details
The script utilizes two primary components to filter market noise:
- Relative Volume Spike: It compares current volume to the immediate preceding bar to ensure a sudden surge in interest.
- Moving Average Baseline: A Simple Moving Average (SMA) of price determines the current trend direction.
- Volume Baseline: An SMA of volume ensures that the "breakout" volume is significant compared to the overall historical average, not just a minor increase from a very low-volume period.
Settings
- Length (Price SMA): Sets the lookback period for the Simple Moving Average of the price used for trend detection.
- Length (Volume SMA): Sets the lookback period for the Simple Moving Average of the volume used to confirm significant participation.
