The Inside Bar Breakout/Fakeout with AI Scenarios [Yosiet] indicator identifies potential breakout and fakeout opportunities using filtered inside bar patterns and trend-based moving averages to categorize market scenarios.

Usage

Traders can use this tool to highlight periods of consolidation and the subsequent volatility that follows a range breakout. The script specifically filters for consecutive inside bars to avoid "noisy" ranges and provides visual confirmation of breakouts based on a user-defined pip threshold.

By monitoring the colored bars and the trend-following moving average, users can identify:

  • Inside Bar Patterns: Gray-colored bars indicating price is staying within the range of the preceding high/low.
  • Bullish Breakouts: Green-colored bars appearing when the price closes above the inside bar high plus a confirmation buffer.
  • Bearish Breakouts: Red-colored bars appearing when the price closes below the inside bar low minus a confirmation buffer.

The script also utilizes alternate resolution calculations, allowing users to view trend data from higher timeframes without switching charts, providing a "scenario" based context for the breakout (e.g., breakout in the direction of the trend versus a counter-trend move).

Details

The indicator operates by storing the high and low of the "mother bar" (the bar preceding the inside bars). It tracks how many consecutive bars stay within this range. If the count exceeds the "Max Consecutive Inside Bars" setting, those bars are no longer considered valid signals.

The trend is determined by comparing a source moving average (like SMA or EMA) against an open-based moving average from the same period. This helps distinguish between strong trend-continuation breakouts and potential fakeouts where the trend might be overextended. The use of a "Breakout Confirmation Pips" value ensures that minor wicks above the range are not immediately flagged as valid breakouts, requiring a decisive close beyond the level.

Settings

General

  • Use Alternate Resolution: Enables the calculation of trend data based on a multiple of the current timeframe.
  • Multiplier for Alternate Resolution: Sets the factor by which the current timeframe is multiplied for trend analysis.

Moving Average

  • MA Type: Choose between SMA, EMA, SMMA, WMA, or VWMA for the trend filter.
  • MA Period: The lookback period used for the moving average calculations.

Breakout

  • Breakout Confirmation Pips: The additional distance price must travel beyond the inside bar range to trigger a breakout signal.
  • Max Consecutive Inside Bars: The maximum number of internal bars allowed before the pattern is considered invalid.

Visualization

  • Horizontal Line Period: Determines the length of the projected high/low lines from the mother bar.
  • Hide Inside Bars: Toggle to show or hide the gray coloring of inside bars.
  • Inside Bar/Breakout Transparency: Adjusts the opacity of the bar coloring on the chart.
