The OptionsMillionaire SPY Moving Averages and Signals indicator provides a comprehensive trend-following toolkit specifically designed for SPY options trading by combining multiple moving average crossovers, VWAP, and trend visualization into a single overlay.

Usage

The Usage section focuses on identifying trend shifts and entry points using the relationship between short-term and long-term momentum. The script is primarily designed for SPY but can be adapted for other tickers.

  • Primary Signal: A "Calls" (Bullish) signal is generated when the short moving average (default 8 EMA) crosses above the long moving average (default 21 EMA). Conversely, a "Puts" (Bearish) signal is triggered when the 8 EMA crosses below the 21 EMA.
  • Trend Visualization: The area between the two primary moving averages is shaded. Green shading indicates a bullish trend, while red shading indicates a bearish trend. The width of this cloud helps visualize trend strength and divergence.
  • Bonus Moving Averages: Users can enable up to three additional moving averages (e.g., 50 SMA, 100 SMA, 200 SMA) to identify higher-timeframe support and resistance levels.
  • VWAP Integration: The tool includes a session-based VWAP with optional standard deviation bands. This acts as a mean reversion tool or a confirmation of value; price trading above VWAP suggests bullish sentiment, while trading below suggests bearish sentiment.

Details

The script is a refactored version of the original OptionsMillionaire system, optimized for performance and visual clarity. It utilizes the request.security function to allow for multi-timeframe analysis of the moving averages, ensuring signals are calculated based on the user's preferred resolution.

The script offers several moving average types including SMA, EMA, WMA, HMA, ALMA, and ZLMA. The "Zero Lag Moving Average" (ZLMA) implementation uses a triple-smoothed WMA calculation to reduce lag while maintaining responsiveness to price action.

FAQ

How do I interpret the "Calls" and "Puts" labels? These labels represent a momentum crossover. A "Calls" label suggests the short-term trend is turning bullish relative to the long-term trend, while a "Puts" label suggests a bearish shift. These are most effective when confirmed by price action and VWAP.

Can I use this for day trading or swing trading? Yes. While originally designed for SPY options (typically with 6-7 days to expiration), the settings can be adjusted. For day trading, users often use the 1-minute or 5-minute charts; for swing trading, the daily timeframe is preferred.
