The Zero Lag Trend Signals (MTF) indicator provides responsive trend detection by combining zero-lag moving average logic with adaptive volatility bands to filter market noise and highlight multi-timeframe trends.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used to identify market direction and potential entry points.

  • Trend Identification: The chart displays a Zero-Lag EMA (ZLEMA) with surrounding volatility bands. When the price crosses above the upper band, a bullish trend is initiated (indicated by a green label). Conversely, a cross below the lower band signals a bearish trend (red label).
  • Entry Signals: Once a trend is established, smaller arrow characters appear when the price retraces and crosses back over the ZLEMA line, suggesting potential entry points in the direction of the prevailing trend.
  • Multi-Timeframe Monitoring: An on-screen table displays the trend status (Bullish/Bearish) across five configurable timeframes. This allows traders to look for confluence across different horizons to confirm the strength of a move.

Details

The script utilizes a zero-lag EMA calculation which compensates for data lag by subtracting the prior price lag from the current price before smoothing. This makes the average much more responsive to price action than a standard EMA. To create the trend bands, the indicator uses the Average True Range (ATR) multiplied by a user-defined factor. This creates a dynamic buffer that requires a significant volatility-adjusted move to trigger a trend shift, helping to reduce whipsaws in sideways markets.

Settings

Main Calculations

  • Length: The look-back window for both the ZLEMA and the ATR calculations. Higher values result in smoother, slower signals.
  • Band Multiplier: Controls the width of the volatility bands. Increasing this value makes the indicator less sensitive to minor price fluctuations.

Extra Timeframes

  • Time frame 1-5: Allows users to specify the periods used for the multi-timeframe dashboard, ranging from intraday minutes to daily charts.

Appearance

  • Bullish Color: Sets the color for bullish signals, labels, and bands.
  • Bearish Color: Sets the color for bearish signals, labels, and bands.

FAQ

How do I use the multi-timeframe table?

The table shows the trend state of the selected timeframes. If the majority of timeframes show a "Bullish" signal, it indicates a strong upward bias across the market structure.

What do the large triangle labels represent?

The large "▲" and "▼" labels mark the initial breakout that starts a new trend based on the price crossing the volatility bands.
