Universal Breakout Strategy
Oct 1, 2025

The Universal Breakout Strategy tool provides a comprehensive framework for testing and executing multiple breakout methodologies within a single integrated system.
Usage
The Usage section describes how the script can be used to identify potential market entries based on various volatility and price action signals. Traders can switch between different breakout modes to suit their specific asset class or trading style.
- Mode Selection: Choose from several breakout logics including Previous Day High/Low, Bollinger Band breaches, or Volume-confirmed breakouts.
- Information Table: A real-time on-chart table displays current mode values (like specific levels for Bollinger or RSI) and live performance statistics such as Net Profit and Win Rate.
- Intrabar Evaluation: Users can toggle between evaluating breakouts based on the bar close or using high/low prices for a more sensitive "tick-like" simulation.
Details
This strategy operates as a multi-modal breakout engine. Depending on the selected mode, it calculates specific dynamic levels:
- Prev Day: Utilizes daily high and low levels from the previous session.
- Bollinger: Uses standard deviation bands (Basis ± Multiplier × StdDev) to identify volatility expansions.
- EMA Trend: Combines standard breakouts with a trend filter (9-period EMA vs 21-period EMA) to ensure trades align with the prevailing momentum.
- Volume & ATR: Incorporates secondary filters where a breakout is only valid if volume exceeds its simple moving average or if the price move exceeds a volatility threshold defined by the Average True Range.
Settings
- Lookback Period: Sets the length for calculations like highest highs, lowest lows, and moving averages.
- Bollinger Multiplier: Adjusts the sensitivity of the Bollinger Band bands.
- Breakout Mode: A dropdown menu to select the primary entry logic (Prev Day, Bollinger, Volume, ATR Stop, Time Filter, EMA Trend, RSI Confirm, Candle Confirm).
- Session: Defines the specific time range for the "Time Filter" mode.
- Evaluate Intrabar: Determines if signals trigger on price crossing a level mid-bar or only on the bar close.
- Show Table/Stats: Toggles for the visual information dashboard and backtest performance metrics.
FAQ
Which strategy should I use for my specific asset?
Breakout selection depends on market characteristics: "Prev Day" is often effective for liquid indices and FX, while "Volume" is frequently used for equities to confirm the strength of a price move.
What timeframes are best for this strategy?
The system is flexible; intraday traders typically focus on 5m to 15m charts using "Time Filter" or "Candle Confirm," while swing traders may prefer 1H to 4H timeframes with "EMA Trend" or "RSI Confirm."
How do I access this script?
You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.
