EMA 21,13,8 - scalping
Aug 21, 2019

The EMA 21,13,8 - scalping indicator provides a specialized trend-following framework using three Exponential Moving Averages to help traders identify and predict momentum shifts in various market conditions.
Usage
The tool is primarily used to determine trend direction and potential entry or exit points based on the positioning of the EMAs relative to the price action.
- Trend Identification: When all three EMAs are positioned above the candles, it indicates a bearish trend (sell bias). Conversely, when the EMAs are situated below the candles, it indicates a bullish trend (buy bias).
- Momentum Shifts: A "flip" in the fastest EMA (Length 8) relative to the other EMAs and the price candles serves as a primary signal. If the 8 EMA crosses or touches a red candle and then flips below the other EMAs, it suggests a sell opportunity. If it touches a green candle and flips above the other EMAs, it suggests a buy opportunity.
- Trend Strength: The distance between the EMAs and the price candles serves as a proxy for trend strength. Wider gaps typically suggest a stronger trending environment.
For optimal results, users often combine this scalping strategy with momentum oscillators such as the Stochastic Oscillator or RSI to confirm overbought or oversold conditions.
Details
This script utilizes three distinct Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs). Unlike simple moving averages, EMAs place a higher weight on recent price data, making them more responsive to new information—a critical feature for scalping and short-term trend following. The default lengths (8, 13, and 21) are derived from Fibonacci sequences, which are commonly used by technical analysts to identify support and resistance zones within a trend.
Settings
- EMA 1 Length: Sets the period for the fastest EMA (default is 8). This line is the most sensitive to price changes.
- EMA 2 Length: Sets the period for the medium EMA (default is 13).
- EMA 3 Length: Sets the period for the slowest EMA (default is 21), which serves as the primary trend baseline.
