Support and ResistanceVolume BasedDashboard

The Volume Profile Vision indicator visualizes trading activity across different price levels to identify key support/resistance zones, fair value areas, and market equilibrium. This tool uses a bi-directional histogram and professional color schemes to highlight high-volume nodes (HVN) and low-volume nodes (LVN) relative to the current price action.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used to interpret market structure. Traders can use the volume distribution to determine where the majority of trading occurred, known as the Point of Control (POC).

  • Identifying Value: The Value Area (VA) highlights the range where a specific percentage of volume (default 68%) was traded. Price staying within the VA suggests market balance, while breakouts above Value Area High (VAH) or below Value Area Low (VAL) indicate potential trend shifts.
  • Support and Resistance: High Volume Nodes (HVNs) act as magnets and areas of consolidation, serving as strong support or resistance. Conversely, Low Volume Nodes (LVNs) represent areas where price moved quickly, often acting as "air pockets" that price may traverse rapidly in the future.
  • Mean Reversion: Traders often look for price to return to the POC when it has extended too far from the Value Area.
  • Dual-Directional View: The indicator displays bars extending both left (into history) and right (traditional histogram), allowing for a precise overlay of volume nodes with historical price candles.

Details

The script divides the visible or specified lookback price range into a user-defined number of levels. For every bar in the lookback period, it calculates the volume traded at each price level.

  • Point of Control (POC): Calculated as the price level with the absolute highest volume. It represents the "fairest" price for the period.
  • Value Area Calculation: Starting from the POC, the script expands upward and downward to include adjacent price levels with the highest volume until the specified volume percentage threshold is reached.
  • Real-Time Highlighting: The tool dynamically highlights volume bars currently intersecting with the active candle, providing immediate feedback on which levels are being tested.
  • Color Systems: The indicator features four specialized color schemes:
    • Traffic Light: Uses red for POC and green for Value Area.
    • Aurora Glass: A modern cyan-to-magenta gradient.
    • Obsidian Precision: A professional dark theme with electric accents.
    • Black Ice: A monochromatic cyan-based intensity scale.

Settings

Lookback Period

  • Use Visible Range: When enabled, the indicator calculates volume based only on the bars currently visible on the chart.
  • Fixed Range Lookback Depth: Sets a specific number of historical bars to analyze if the visible range option is disabled.

Volume Profile Settings

  • Number of Price Levels: Adjusts the resolution of the profile. Higher values provide more granularity; lower values show broader zones.
  • Volume Type: Allows filtering by 'Both', 'Bullish', or 'Bearish' volume to see distribution based on candle direction.

Display Options

  • Color Scheme: Selects between Traffic Light, Aurora Glass, Obsidian Precision, and Black Ice presets.
  • Left Extension / Right Extension: Controls the width and reach of the bi-directional histogram bars.
  • Right Margin / Left Profile Gap: Adjusts the spacing between the histogram and the price candles for visual clarity.

Value Area & Nodes

  • Value Area Percentage: Sets the percentage of total volume used to calculate the VA (default is 68%).
  • HVN Threshold: Defines the volume percentage (relative to POC) required to classify a level as a High Volume Node.

FAQ

How do I interpret the different colors in the histogram? The colors vary based on the selected scheme, but generally, the brightest or most distinct color (e.g., Red in Traffic Light) represents the POC. Levels within the Value Area are colored differently than those outside it to show market acceptance.

Can I use this for intraday scalping? Yes, by adjusting the "Number of Price Levels" and using lower timeframes like the 5-minute or 15-minute charts, you can identify intraday high-volume zones and local support/resistance.
