The (MACD-Price) Displaying MACD Indicators on Price Charts indicator projects traditional MACD dynamics directly onto the price chart, allowing traders to monitor trend shifts and momentum without looking away from price action.

Usage

The indicator can be used to identify trend direction and potential entry or exit points based on the relationship between price and the calculated MACD levels.

  • Trend Identification: The plot color changes based on the MACD Histogram. A green line indicates a bullish regime (Histogram > 0), while a red line indicates a bearish regime (Histogram < 0).
  • Bullish Entry: Traders may look for long opportunities when the line is green and the price action crosses above the plotted line.
  • Bearish Entry: Traders may look for short opportunities when the line is red and the price action crosses below the plotted line.

Details

The script functions by calculating the standard MACD components (Fast EMA, Slow EMA, Signal Line, and Histogram). However, instead of plotting these as oscillators in a separate pane, it calculates a midpoint value derived from the MACD and Signal lines. This value is then transformed into a price-overlay plot. The script specifically evaluates the trajectory of the MACD/Signal midpoint to determine whether to anchor the plot to the current bar's Open or Close, creating a "Buy/Sell line" that follows price movement while reacting to underlying momentum changes.

Settings

  • Fast Length: The period for the shorter Exponential Moving Average (default is 12).
  • Slow Length: The period for the longer Exponential Moving Average (default is 26).
  • Signal Smoothing: The period for the EMA of the MACD line (default is 9).
  • Source: The price data used for the EMA calculations (default is Close).
