RSI Multi Time Frame
Dec 5, 2020

The RSI Multi Time Frame indicator provides a streamlined way to monitor Relative Strength Index (RSI) values across multiple timeframes within a single oscillator pane. It calculates and plots the standard RSI for the current chart timeframe while simultaneously projecting the RSI from a higher timeframe (HTF) onto the current scale, allowing traders to observe trend alignment and momentum shifts without switching charts.
Usage
The tool is primarily used to identify trend direction and momentum exhaustion by comparing local price action with broader market context.
- Trend Confirmation: When both the current RSI and the HTF RSI are above 50, it indicates bullish alignment. Conversely, values below 50 suggest bearish alignment.
- Dynamic Support/Resistance: The HTF RSI line often acts as a dynamic level for the current timeframe RSI. A crossover of the current RSI above the HTF RSI can signal an acceleration in momentum.
- Wait for Completion: On the current timeframe, the HTF RSI value updates dynamically until the higher timeframe candle closes. This allows you to see the "path" of the higher timeframe RSI as it develops.
Details
Unlike traditional MTF indicators that produce "staircase" effects or shifted data, this script utilizes advanced array handling to render the HTF RSI more fluidly. It captures the RSI from a user-defined or automatically selected higher timeframe and maps it across current candles. By using an array of lines, the indicator preserves the visual historical context of the HTF data, ensuring that the relationship between the two timeframes is clear and actionable for technical analysis.
Settings
- Higher Time Frame: Select the specific timeframe for the secondary RSI. The "Auto" option intelligently selects a relevant higher timeframe based on your current chart.
- Length: Sets the lookback period for the RSI calculation (default is 14).
- Source: Determines the price data used for the RSI (e.g., Close, Open, High, Low).
- Indicator Color/Width: Customizes the visual appearance of the current timeframe RSI.
- Indicator HTF Color/Width: Customizes the visual appearance of the higher timeframe RSI.
- Background Color: Adjusts the color of the 30-70 range fill.
- Number of Bars for RSI HTF: Limits the number of historical HTF bars displayed to optimize performance and chart clarity.
