The BOCS Channel Scalper Indicator tool identifies consolidation channels through volatility analysis and generates alert signals when price enters entry zones near channel boundaries. Designed specifically for manual traders, this indicator utilizes a mean reversion thesis to identify scalp opportunities within ranging markets, providing real-time visual signals and comprehensive alert functionality for entry, take profit, and stop loss levels.

Usage

The Usage section focuses on identifying high-probability mean reversion setups within consolidation phases. Unlike breakout systems, this tool identifies entry points when price reaches the extremes of a detected channel, anticipating a return to the mean.

  • Manual Scalping: Traders can use the visual markers (arrows and labels) to identify entry points in real-time. When price enters the defined "Long Zone" or "Short Zone," the indicator plots reference levels for execution.
  • Alert System: The indicator features four distinct alert conditions (New Channel, Long Entry, Short Entry, or Any Entry). These can be sent via popup, email, or webhook to notification services.
  • Volatility Filtering: Use the built-in ATR filter to ensure the indicator only signals when there is sufficient market movement, avoiding "dead zones" where price may stagnate.
  • Risk Management: The tool automatically calculates suggested Take Profit (TP) and Stop Loss (SL) levels. Users can choose between a fixed tick distance or a percentage-based target relative to the channel's range.

Details

The indicator employs a price normalization process to create consistent volatility measurements across different instruments. By calculating the relative position of the current close within a 100-bar high/low range, it produces a standardized value between 0 and 1.

A 14-period standard deviation is then applied to this normalized data. When volatility transitions from a high level to a low level, the script identifies a consolidation phase and draws a channel box. Channels are automatically invalidated and removed if price closes more than 10 ticks outside the boundaries, signaling a potential trend breakout.

Settings

Channel Settings

  • Nested Channels: Allows multiple overlapping channels to be displayed simultaneously.
  • Normalization Length: The lookback period (default 100) used for the high/low calculation.
  • Box Detection Length: The period used for volatility detection and channel formation.

Scalping Settings

  • Entry Zone % from Edge: Defines the size of the trigger zones at the top and bottom of the channel (default 20%).
  • SL Offset (Ticks): Sets the distance beyond the channel boundary for the stop loss.
  • Cooldown Period (Bars): Minimum number of bars required between consecutive signals to prevent alert spam.

ATR Filter

  • Enable ATR Filter: Toggles the volatility threshold check.
  • ATR Timeframe/Length: Specifies the source timeframe and smoothing period for the ATR calculation.
  • Min ATR Value: The minimum price movement threshold required for signals to trigger.

Take Profit Settings

  • TP Method: Choose between "Fixed Points" (static ticks) or "% of Channel" (dynamic calculation).
  • TP Fixed (Ticks): The static distance used if the fixed method is selected.
  • TP % of Channel: The target level expressed as a percentage of the channel range (e.g., 50% targets the midline).

FAQ

How do I access BOCS Channel Scalper Indicator?

You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.

What is the difference between this and a strategy?

This is an indicator version designed for manual trading and alerts. It does not execute automated trades or provide backtesting results; instead, it provides visual and audio cues for manual execution.

Why are some signals not appearing even when price touches the zone?

This is likely due to the ATR Filter or the Cooldown Period. If the market volatility is below your "Min ATR Value" or if a signal occurred too recently within the "Cooldown Period," new alerts will be suppressed to ensure quality.
