The Midnight Opening Ranges indicator tool highlights the high and low price action during the critical 00:00 to 00:30 midnight timeframe, providing key institutional levels for daily bias and support/resistance analysis.

Usage

The indicator is primarily used to identify the "Opening Range" established during the first 30 minutes of the trading day (00:00 - 00:30 GMT-4/5). Traders use this range to anticipate market direction, often looking for price to trade above or below these levels to confirm a bullish or bearish bias.

Examples of usage include:

  • Support & Resistance: Use the range high and low as intraday support or resistance levels.
  • Standard Deviation Projections: Monitor price movement toward standard deviation levels plotted above and below the range to identify potential exhaustion or targets.
  • Historical Context: Analyze how current price reacts to the opening ranges of previous days to find recurring areas of interest.
  • Custom Sessions: Set custom opening prices (e.g., NY Open or London Close) to align the tool with specific trading session start times.

Details

This tool is based on concepts popularized by Michael J. Huddleston (ICT), specifically focusing on the Midnight Open as a "true" start to the daily candle for many institutional traders. The script calculates the high and low of the initial 30-minute window and projects standard deviations based on the width of that range. This helps in identifying potential expansion or reversal zones (Power of 3 - Accumulation, Manipulation, Distribution).
