The Market Structure Confluence indicator merges classic price action analysis with a dynamic volatility-based band system to provide a comprehensive view of market shifts and momentum.

Usage

The Market Structure Confluence tool is used to identify trend direction and potential reversal points through the integration of structural breaks and volatility thresholds.

  • Trend Identification: The script automatically labels Higher Highs (HH), Higher Lows (HL), Lower Highs (LH), and Lower Lows (LL). A sequence of HHs and HLs indicates a bullish trend, while LHs and LLs indicate a bearish trend.
  • Structural Breaks: Break of Structure (BOS) lines appear when price continues the current trend by breaking a previous swing point. Change of Character (CHoCH) labels appear when the price breaks a swing point that results in a trend reversal.
  • Volatility Rejections: Small arrows (▲/▼) are plotted when the price pierces the volatility bands and subsequently pulls back. These signals often highlight "trap" moves or high-probability entries in the direction of the newly established market structure.
  • Confirmation Styles: Users can choose between "Candle Close" or "Wicks" for break confirmations. Candle close confirmation is generally more conservative, requiring price to settle beyond a level to trigger a signal.

Details

The script operates on two primary components:

  1. Pivot-Based Market Structure: It uses a user-defined time horizon to find pivot points. These pivots form the basis for detecting BOS and CHoCH events.
  2. Volatility Bands: The bands are constructed using a Weighted Moving Average (WMA) as a basis, combined with an ATR-smoothed volatility component. This allows the bands to expand and contract based on market activity, providing dynamic support and resistance levels that adapt to current conditions.

Settings

Market Structure

  • Time-Horizon: The look-back period for detecting pivot highs and lows. Larger values result in more significant, longer-term structure labels.
  • BOS Confirmation: Determines if a break is triggered by the candle wick or requires a full candle close.
  • BOS/CHoCH Line Style: Adjusts the visual appearance (Solid, Dashed, Dotted) of the structure lines.
  • Show CHoCH: Toggles the visibility of Change of Character labels.
  • Show Swing Labels: Toggles the visibility of HH, HL, LH, and LL labels.

Band Settings

  • Basis Length: The look-back period for the central WMA calculation.
  • ATR Length: The period used to calculate the Average True Range.
  • ATR Smoothing: The smoothing period applied to the ATR to reduce noise in band expansion.
  • Volatility Multiplier: Determines the width of the bands relative to the smoothed ATR.

Appearance & Alerts

  • Bull/Bear Color: Customizes the colors used for bullish and bearish signals, bands, and labels.
  • Wait for Bar Close (alerts): When enabled, alerts will only trigger once the current candle has finished forming to prevent repaint-based notifications.

FAQ

How do I use the CHoCH signals? A CHoCH (Change of Character) signal indicates a potential shift in trend direction. Traders often look for this as the first sign that a trend is exhausting and a reversal is starting.

What is the difference between BOS and CHoCH in this script? A BOS (Break of Structure) represents trend continuation, whereas a CHoCH represents a trend reversal. The script identifies these based on the relationship between the break and the previous trend direction.
