MACD Hybrid BSH
Dec 5, 2020

The MACD Hybrid BSH indicator provides a comprehensive trend-following system by combining two distinct MACD signal components into a unified Buy, Sell, and Hold framework.
Usage
The Usage section describes how the script can be used to interpret market momentum and trend changes. The indicator colorizes the price bars based on the confluence of two internal signals:
- Buy (Green): Occurs when both the MACD line is above its signal line and the Fast EMA (12) is above the Slow EMA (26). This represents a strong bullish confluence.
- Hold (Yellow): Occurs when only one of the two signals is bullish. This often acts as a transitional phase or a warning of weakening momentum.
- Sell (Red): Occurs when neither signal is bullish (Fast EMA below Slow EMA and MACD line below Signal line), indicating strong bearish momentum.
A common strategy involves moving to a neutral cash position during yellow "Hold" bars, entering longs on green bars, and entering shorts on red bars. Users often observe that sequences like green-yellow-green or red-yellow-red indicate stronger continuation than sequences that flip the primary trend color.
Details
The script evaluates market conditions by looking at two different interactions:
- EMA Crossover: The relationship between the 12-period and 26-period EMAs (equivalent to the MACD line crossing the zero level).
- MACD Signal Crossover: The relationship between the MACD line (12 EMA - 26 EMA) and its 9-period signal line.
By combining these, the "Hybrid" aspect reduces noise. While the 26 EMA is not explicitly plotted to keep the chart clean, its influence is integrated into the bar coloring logic. The indicator plots a Fast EMA and a modified Signal line relative to price to help visualize the momentum shifts directly on the chart.
Settings
- Fast EMA Period: Sets the lookback period for the fast exponential moving average (Default: 12).
- Slow EMA Period: Sets the lookback period for the slow exponential moving average (Default: 26).
- Source: Determines the price data used for calculations (Default: Close).
- MACD Signal Length: Sets the smoothing period for the MACD signal line (Default: 9).
- Graphical Amplitude: Adjusts the visual displacement of the plotted signal lines relative to price for better visibility (Default: 2).
