The SuperTrend Pro indicator is a trend-following tool that enhances the classic SuperTrend framework with a volatility regime engine, volume participation classification, and session-aware signal filtering. It aims to provide traders with higher-conviction trend signals by adapting to current market conditions and filtering out low-conviction flips occurring during choppy or low-volume periods.

Usage

The Usage section highlights how to interpret the trend signals and the various qualification markers provided by the script.

  • Primary Signals: Actionable entries are marked with a "Q" triangle. A green upward "Q" represents a Qualified Bull Flip, while a red downward "Q" represents a Qualified Bear Flip. These signals only appear when all internal filters (volatility, participation, and time window) are met.
  • Trend Tracking: The core SuperTrend line acts as dynamic support during bullish trends (green) and dynamic resistance during bearish trends (red).
  • Contextual Markers: Small circles (Low Participation), diamonds (High Participation but filtered), and "X" marks (Exhaustion Risk) provide context on the nature of a trend flip without signaling a direct entry.
  • Time Window Filtering: The tool can be set to only issue qualified signals during specific market hours, such as the market open or close, to avoid midday "choppiness."

Details

The script operates using three distinct layers of intelligence:

  1. Volatility Regime Engine: It calculates a rolling ATR percentile to categorize the market into Low, Normal, or High volatility regimes. The ATR multiplier automatically scales—tightening in low volatility and expanding in high volatility—to reduce noise.
  2. Participation Classifier: It compares current bar volume to a rolling moving average. Flips occurring on low relative volume are tagged as "Low Participation," while high-volume flips are scrutinized for potential "Exhaustion Risk" if they occur during high volatility.
  3. Profile Engine: The script includes pre-optimized profiles for QQQ on 5-minute and 1-minute timeframes, allowing for instant deployment without manual calibration.

Settings

Profile Engine

  • Timeframe Profile: Choose between QQQ 5-Minute, QQQ 1-Minute, or Custom mode.

Custom SuperTrend Core

  • Custom ATR Length: Sets the lookback period for the ATR calculation.
  • Custom Base ATR Multiplier: Defines the base width of the SuperTrend envelope.
  • Source: The price anchor for calculations (default is hl2).

Custom Volatility Regimes

  • Custom Regime Lookback: Number of bars used for percentile ranking.
  • Regime Adjustments: Scaling factors for the multiplier in different volatility states.

Signal Qualification

  • Confirm Markers On Bar Close: Ensures signals only trigger after a bar is finalized to prevent repainting.
  • Custom Actionable Signal Mode: Selects which participation types (e.g., Low Part. only) are allowed to trigger a "Q" signal.
  • Signal Time Windows: Configurable session strings to restrict signals to specific times of day.

FAQ

How do I interpret the "X" markers? The "X" markers represent Exhaustion Risk. This occurs when a trend flip happens on very high volume during high volatility. These are often climactic moves that reverse quickly rather than initiating a new sustained trend.

What are the "Q" markers? "Q" markers stand for "Qualified." These are the primary signals that have passed the volatility, participation, and session time filters.
