Pivot High Low Reversals
Aug 9, 2019

The Pivot High Low Reversals indicator identifies significant structural turning points in the market by detecting historical price peaks and troughs based on specific lookback periods.
Usage
The Usage section focuses on identifying market structure and potential reversal zones. By marking pivot highs and lows with visual crosses, the tool helps traders identify areas of supply and demand.
- Pivot Highs: These are marked when a high is the highest within a defined lookback window. They often act as resistance levels.
- Pivot Lows: These are marked when a low is the lowest within a defined lookback window. They often act as support levels.
Traders can use these markers to identify trend shifts (e.g., lower highs or higher lows) or to set stop-loss and take-profit levels based on recent market structure.
Details
The script functions by evaluating price action over a fixed window of 76 bars. It determines a pivot based on the relationship between a "middle" point and the "left" offset. Specifically, it looks for the highest high or lowest low within the specified range and confirms the pivot once the required number of bars has passed. This ensures that the identified point is a true local extremity relative to the surrounding price action.
Settings
- Pivot High/Low Visualization: The script plots crosses on the chart to indicate where a pivot was confirmed.
- Offsets: The calculations use a fixed left offset of 50 bars and a right offset of 25 bars to determine the validity of a pivot point.
FAQ
How do I use the Pivot High Low Reversals for entries?
While the indicator identifies structural points, it is best used in conjunction with other trend-following tools to confirm if a pivot high or low marks the beginning of a larger reversal or a temporary retracement.
Are the signals repainting?
The crosses are plotted with an offset to reflect the historical point where the pivot occurred. The signal is confirmed only after the "right" lookback period has been completed, ensuring the point is a genuine local extremity.
