The Keltner Channel with signals indicator provides a comprehensive volatility-based envelope system that identifies potential bullish and bearish reversal zones using customizable moving average filters.

Usage

The indicator can be used to identify trend exhaustion and potential reversal points when price action interacts with the upper and lower bands.

  • Bullish Signals: Occur when the filtered low price crosses below the lower Keltner band, suggesting an oversold condition or a potential upward reversal.
  • Bearish Signals: Occur when the filtered high price crosses above the upper Keltner band, suggesting an overbought condition or a potential downward reversal.

The tool includes visual aids such as circle markers at reversal points and optional background coloring to highlight current market sentiment. Users can toggle between continuous background coloring or discrete signals based on their preference.

Details

The Keltner Channel consists of a central moving average (Basis) and two bands offset by a multiple of the Average True Range (ATR) or simple range. This script enhances the traditional calculation by allowing users to apply a secondary "MA Signal Type" filter to the high and low prices. This additional filtering layer helps reduce noise and provides more stable signals compared to raw price crossovers. Supported filter types include SMA, EMA, RMA, WMA, Hull MA, VWMA, Zero Lag, and an Adaptive MA.

Settings

Main Settings

  • Offset: Adjusts the vertical displacement of the signal circles from the high/low of the bar.
  • Use True Range: When enabled, uses Average True Range (ATR) for band calculation; otherwise, uses simple high-low range.
  • Length: The period used for the central EMA and the range calculation.
  • Multiplier: The value used to multiply the range to determine band width.
  • Source: The price input used for the basis calculation (default is Close).
  • Highlight Bear/Bull reversals?: Toggles the background coloring for signals.
  • Continuous BG Color: When enabled, the background color remains active until an opposing signal occurs.

Signal Settings

  • Signal Length: The period used for the filtering moving average.
  • MA Signal Type: Selects the calculation method for the price filter (e.g., EMA, HULL, Zero Lag, Adaptive).
  • Use Filter: Enables or disables the smoothing filter on the high/low prices used for signal generation.
