The MARKET DYNAMICS HH LL BREAKOUT indicator identifies potential trend reversals and continuations by monitoring breakouts of the highest highs and lowest lows over a defined lookback period.

Usage

The indicator is primarily designed for positional trading on indices like Bank Nifty and Nifty, specifically on a 5-minute timeframe. It operates on a "flip" logic: when a long signal is triggered, the strategy enters a buy position; this position is held until a sell signal occurs, at which point the long position is closed and a short position is initiated.

Users can choose to trade only long, only short, or both directions using the "Strategy Direction" setting. The tool also includes built-in percentage-based stop loss and take profit levels to manage risk on every trade.

Details

The script functions as a non-repainting breakout strategy. It determines entry points based on the current price crossing the highest high or lowest low of the previous n bars (the Lookback). To filter out false breakouts, it utilizes a "Guard" mechanism which compares the recent peak/trough against a secondary high/low range (Guard Length and Offset). This ensures that a breakout is only signaled when the price pushes significantly beyond recent price action.

Settings

Strategy Configuration

  • Strategy Direction: Sets the trading mode to Long, Short, or All (both directions).
  • Price Source: Determines which price data point (e.g., Close, High, Open) is used for the breakout calculations.
  • Lookback: The number of bars used to determine the highest high and lowest low for breakout detection.

Risk Management

  • Stop Loss %: The percentage away from the average entry price where a position will be automatically closed to limit losses.
  • Take Profit %: The percentage away from the average entry price where a position will be closed to secure gains.

Filters

  • Guard Length: The lookback window for the guard filter, used to validate the strength of the breakout.
  • Guard Offset: The displacement used for the guard calculation to ensure historical relevance.

Backtest Window

  • Backtest Start/Stop (Year/Month/Day): Defines the specific date range for which the strategy will calculate historical performance.

FAQ

How do I use the MARKET DYNAMICS HH LL BREAKOUT?

Simply apply the script to your chart (optimally a 5-minute index chart). Follow the "Long" and "Short" labels for potential entry and exit points based on the breakout logic.

Can I change the sensitivity of the signals?

Yes, you can adjust the "Lookback" and "Guard Length" settings. A shorter lookback will result in more frequent signals, while a longer lookback will produce fewer, more significant breakout signals.
