The MACD PRO indicator provides an enhanced trend analysis framework by visualizing momentum, direction, and potential reversal points through three distinct moving average components.

Usage

The indicator utilizes a multi-layered approach to trend identification based on the relationship between its three primary lines: the Short EMA, the Signal Line, and the Long EMA.

  • Bullish Trend: A positive trend is confirmed when the background or fill turns green, indicating the Short EMA is above both 0 and the Signal Line.
  • Bearish Trend: A negative trend is confirmed when the fill turns red, indicating the Short EMA is below both 0 and the Signal Line.
  • Correction/Warning: Yellow or orange fills appear when the Short EMA diverges from the Signal Line despite its position relative to the zero line. This often highlights price corrections or potential trend exhaustions.
  • Trend Strength: The Long EMA (yellow line) acts as a watershed. Stronger price movements are typically expected when the Short EMA (white line) crosses above or below the Long EMA.

For long entries, users often look for green fills where the Short EMA is above the Long EMA and the zero level. For short entries, users typically look for red fills where the Long EMA is below the zero level.

Details

Unlike the standard MACD which utilizes two lines and a histogram, the MACD PRO focuses on the interaction between three exponential moving averages calculated from the price source (HLC3). By comparing a short-term trend (Short EMA) against a signal line and a long-term baseline (Long EMA), the tool provides a more granular view of trend maturity. The zero line serves as the primary pivot for overall market bias, while the Signal and Long EMAs provide specific triggers for momentum shifts.

Settings

  • Slow Length: The period for the slow EMA used in the initial MACD calculation (default 34).
  • Fast Length: The period for the fast EMA used in the initial MACD calculation (default 17).
  • Signal Length: The period for the exponential moving average of the Short EMA, creating the Signal Line (default 17).
  • Long Length: The period used for the Long EMA baseline, acting as a trend filter (default 72).
