SignalsOscillators

The MACD + RSI indicator provides a dual-oscillator view by overlaying the Relative Strength Index (RSI) onto the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) panel, allowing for efficient multi-indicator analysis within a single pane.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used to identify momentum and trend reversals simultaneously. By combining these two popular oscillators, traders can look for confluence between MACD crossovers and RSI overbought or oversold conditions.

  • Trend Confirmation: Use the MACD line and signal line crossovers to identify potential trend shifts while monitoring the RSI for extreme price conditions.
  • Space Optimization: This tool is particularly useful for users with limited screen real estate or tiled window layouts, as it eliminates the need for two separate indicator panes.
  • Confluence Trading: A bullish MACD crossover occurring while the RSI is recovering from oversold levels (below 30) can provide a stronger signal than either indicator alone.

Details

The script calculates the standard MACD using fast and slow moving averages (EMA by default) and a signal line. To allow the RSI to appear in the same window, the RSI values are mathematically scaled to align with the MACD's coordinate system. This ensures that both indicators remain visible and readable despite having different calculation ranges.

Settings

  • Source: Determines the price data used for both MACD and RSI calculations (default is Close).
  • MACD Fast Length: The period for the shorter-term moving average.
  • MACD Slow Length: The period for the longer-term moving average.
  • MACD Signal Smoothing: The smoothing period for the MACD signal line.
  • MACD Simple MA (Oscillator): If enabled, uses SMA instead of EMA for the MACD lines.
  • MACD Simple MA (Signal Line): If enabled, uses SMA for the signal line calculation.
  • RSI Length: The period used to calculate the Relative Strength Index.

FAQ

How do I read the RSI on this indicator?

The RSI is scaled to fit the MACD pane. You can observe the RSI line's movement relative to its internal bands to identify overbought and oversold conditions alongside MACD momentum.

Can I change the moving average types?

Yes, the settings allow you to toggle between Exponential Moving Averages (EMA) and Simple Moving Averages (SMA) for both the MACD oscillator and the signal line.
