The vwap & MA Crossoverv indicator is a trend-following tool designed to identify potential entry and exit points by tracking the relationship between a simple moving average and a smoothed Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP).

Usage

The indicator can be used to identify trend reversals or continuations based on the intersection of price-based momentum and volume-weighted value.

  • Bullish Signal: A buy signal (green upward triangle) is generated when the Moving Average (MA) crosses above the Smoothed VWAP. This suggests that recent price action is gaining strength relative to the volume-weighted average.
  • Bearish Signal: A sell signal (red downward triangle) is generated when the Moving Average (MA) crosses below the Smoothed VWAP. This indicates that price momentum is weakening compared to the volume-weighted average.

The tool is particularly effective in trending markets where the crossover can signal the start of a new directional move.

Details

The script calculates two primary components:

  1. Smoothed VWAP: Instead of using the raw VWAP, the script applies a Simple Moving Average (SMA) to the VWAP values. This smoothing helps filter out minor fluctuations and provides a clearer baseline for trend comparison.
  2. Price Moving Average: A standard Simple Moving Average is calculated based on the closing price.

By comparing these two values, the indicator measures whether the current price trend (represented by the MA) is trading above or below the volume-justified average price level.

Settings

  • MA Length: Determines the period used for the Simple Moving Average calculated on the closing price.
  • VWAP Average Length: Sets the period for smoothing the VWAP line. A higher value will result in a slower, smoother VWAP reference line.
