The Parabolic SAR Strategy w/ EMA Alerts indicator provides a systematic trend-following approach by combining price action momentum with moving average filters to identify high-probability entry points.

Usage

The indicator generates visual signals on the chart to assist in trend identification and trade execution:

  • Long Entry (Green Arrow): Occurs when price breaks above the Parabolic SAR while remaining above the Slow EMA (plus a specified offset), often supported by the Fast EMA being above the Slow EMA.
  • Short Entry (Red Arrow): Occurs when price breaks below the Parabolic SAR while remaining below the Slow EMA (minus a specified offset), often supported by the Fast EMA being below the Slow EMA.
  • No Trade Zone (White/Neutral Bars): The bars change to a neutral color (typically white or the chart's foreground color) when the trend criteria are not fully met, such as when price is within the EMA offset zone or the EMAs are misaligned with the PSAR direction.

Details

This tool utilizes a multi-layered filtering system:

  1. Parabolic SAR (PSAR): Acts as the primary momentum trigger and daily trailing stop level.
  2. Dual EMAs: A Slow EMA acts as a long-term trend filter, while a Fast EMA identifies shorter-term momentum shifts.
  3. Volatility Offset: A percentage-based offset is applied to the Slow EMA to create a "buffer zone," helping to filter out "choppy" price action near the moving average.

Settings

  • Slow EMA Length: Determines the period for the long-term trend filter.
  • Fast EMA Length: Determines the period for the short-term momentum filter.
  • EMA Offset %: Defines a percentage-based buffer around the Slow EMA to filter out noise.
  • PSAR Start: The initial acceleration factor for the Parabolic SAR.
  • PSAR Increment: The step by which the acceleration factor increases.
  • PSAR Maximum: The maximum cap for the acceleration factor.

FAQ

How do I use the neutral bar colors?

Neutral bar colors indicate that the current market conditions do not meet the full strategy criteria. This usually happens during consolidations or when momentum is conflicting with the long-term trend.

What do the arrows signify?

The arrows represent specific entry signals where the PSAR flips and price alignment with the EMAs is confirmed.
