The MACD DEMA Heat Bckgrd indicator provides a visual heatmap on the price chart based on a zero-lag MACD calculation utilizing Double Exponential Moving Averages (DEMA) to help traders identify trend direction and momentum shifts with reduced lag.

Usage

The Usage section focuses on interpreting the background coloring and identifying potential trade signals. The indicator colors the chart background based on the relationship between the DEMA-based MACD line and its Signal line:

  • Bullish Trend (Green Background): When the MACD line is above the Signal line, the background turns green, suggesting bullish momentum.
  • Bearish Trend (Red Background): When the MACD line is below the Signal line, the background turns red, suggesting bearish momentum.

Traders often look for the transition points (background color changes) as entry or exit signals. A switch from red to green indicates a bullish crossover, while a switch from green to red indicates a bearish crossunder.

Details

The script uses Double Exponential Moving Averages (DEMA) instead of standard EMAs to calculate the MACD components. DEMA is designed to reduce the lag typically associated with moving averages by applying a specific formula: $DEMA = (2 * EMA) - EMA(EMA)$.

By applying this logic to both the fast and slow lengths, and subsequently to the Signal line itself, the indicator creates a "Zero-Lag" effect. This allows the MACD to respond more rapidly to price changes than a traditional MACD, potentially offering earlier trend detection.

Settings

  • DEMA Courte: Sets the period for the fast Double Exponential Moving Average (default is 12).
  • DEMA Longue: Sets the period for the slow Double Exponential Moving Average (default is 26).
  • Signal: Sets the smoothing period for the Signal line (default is 9).
  • Enable Heatmap?: Toggles the background coloring on or off.

FAQ

How do I interpret the background colors? Green backgrounds indicate that the MACD line is above the signal line (bullish), while red backgrounds indicate it is below (bearish).

How does this differ from a regular MACD? It uses DEMA instead of EMA for all calculations, which significantly reduces the lag and makes the indicator more reactive to recent price movements.
