The RSI/MFI/Stoch - MTF - Entry signals/Trend colored bars - JD indicator is a comprehensive momentum and trend-following tool designed to provide early entry signals and track trend moves across multiple timeframes. It utilizes a smoothed histogram of chosen momentum oscillators to filter noise and identify high-probability reversal points.

Usage

This tool can be used to identify both short-term reversals and long-term trends by analyzing the relationship between an oscillator (RSI, MFI, or Stochastic) and its smoothed moving average.

The indicator offers several visual modes to assist in decision-making:

  • Histogram Analysis: The central histogram represents the difference between the oscillator and its EMA. A green histogram indicates bullish momentum, while red indicates bearish momentum.
  • Trendline Breaks: The script automatically plots trendlines based on oscillator highs and lows. Crosses above or below these trendlines can signal significant shifts in momentum.
  • Bar Coloring: Users can color price bars based on seven different strategies, including histogram slope for fast entries or oscillator position for long-term trend holds.
  • Multi-Timeframe (MTF) Support: You can overlay momentum data from higher timeframes (e.g., 3H or Daily) onto lower timeframe charts to ensure you are trading in the direction of the macro trend.

Details

The script calculates momentum using one of three selectable bases: Relative Strength Index (RSI), Money Flow Index (MFI), or Stochastic. It then derives a histogram from the difference between the oscillator and a smoothed EMA.

To reduce lagging and provide earlier signals, the histogram undergoes a secondary smoothing process (Double or Triple EMA logic). The "No Repaint" option ensures that when using MTF settings, the indicator uses the price action available at the current resolution to provide real-time updates without retroactively changing past signals.

Settings

Main Settings

  • Use Current Chart Resolution?: When enabled, the indicator uses the timeframe of the active chart.
  • Use Different Timeframe?: Allows the selection of a specific timeframe for MTF analysis.
  • Use Current Resolution price action for NO REPAINT: Ensures the MTF calculation updates in real-time without recalculating historical bars.
  • Base indicator: Choose between 1 (RSI), 2 (MFI), or 3 (Stochastic).
  • Source: The price data used for calculations (default is Close).
  • RSI/MFI/Stoch Length: The lookback period for the base oscillator.
  • Smoothing Length: The period for the histogram smoothing calculation.

Visual Settings

  • Color bars based on: Select the logic for price bar coloring (Slope, Histogram +/- , Line +/- , Uptrend bias, Downtrend bias, Auto, or Trendline).
  • Show highs/lows trendlines: Toggles the automated trendline drawing on the oscillator.
  • Trendline lookback length: Adjusts how far the script looks back to find pivots for trendline construction.

FAQ

How do I use the different bar coloring strategies?

Each strategy serves a different purpose; for example, "Slope" is best for catching early reversals, while "Line +/-" is better for staying in a trend until the oscillator crosses the 50 midline.

Why should I use a higher timeframe for the indicator?

Higher timeframes filter out market noise. Using a 3x or 4x higher timeframe often provides more reliable trend signals and reduces "whipsaw" entries.
