The Fibonacci Moving Average indicator provides a composite view of market trends by averaging 15 different Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs) based on Fibonacci sequences to establish dynamic support and resistance zones.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used to identify trend direction and potential entry points. The indicator plots two distinct lines: a High Fibonacci MA and a Low Fibonacci MA, creating a channel on the chart.

  • Trend Identification: When the price is trading above both lines, the market is considered to be in a bullish phase. Conversely, when the price is trading below both lines, the market is considered to be in a bearish phase.
  • Dynamic Support and Resistance: The area between the High and Low lines acts as a transitional zone. During an uptrend, the lines provide dynamic support where price may bounce. During a downtrend, they act as dynamic resistance.
  • Entry Signals: Traders often look for price crossovers. A close above the "Fib High" line can signal a potential long entry, while a close below the "Fib Low" line can signal a potential short entry.

Details

The Fibonacci Moving Average is constructed by calculating 15 individual Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs) for both the high and low prices. The periods used for these EMAs follow the Fibonacci sequence: 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144, 233, 377, 610, 987, 1597, 2584, and 4181.

By averaging these values, the indicator smooths out short-term noise while incorporating very long-term trend data. The final output consists of two values:

  1. Fib High: The arithmetic mean of 15 EMAs calculated using the High price.
  2. Fib Low: The arithmetic mean of 15 EMAs calculated using the Low price.

This method ensures that the indicator reacts to recent price action through the shorter Fibonacci periods while remaining anchored to the broader trend via the longer periods.

Settings

  • Fib High: Adjusts the visual style and visibility of the upper composite moving average line calculated from high prices.
  • Fib Low: Adjusts the visual style and visibility of the lower composite moving average line calculated from low prices.

FAQ

How do I interpret the colors of the Fibonacci Moving Average? The lines change color based on the price position relative to the averages. Typically, green indicates the price is above the average (bullish), while red indicates the price is below the average (bearish).

What timeframes work best with this indicator? The indicator is designed to be versatile; however, because it includes very long-term EMA periods (up to 4181), it is particularly effective on timeframes where sufficient historical data is available to calculate the longer-term averages.
