RSI Oversold/Undersold
Jun 21, 2016

The RSI Oversold/Undersold indicator identifies potential market reversals by plotting visual signals on the chart when Relative Strength Index (RSI) extremes are met in conjunction with volume requirements.
Usage
The Usage section focuses on identifying overextended market conditions directly on the price chart. When the RSI value exceeds the defined overbought threshold or falls below the oversold threshold across consecutive bars, the script generates a signal:
- Green Up Arrows: Appear below the bar when the asset is considered oversold, suggesting a potential long opportunity or a relief bounce.
- Red Down Arrows: Appear above the bar when the asset is considered overbought, suggesting a potential short opportunity or price correction.
Users can apply this tool to identify extreme momentum exhaustion in various timeframes. While the default uses a faster 5-period RSI, it can be adjusted to match standard 14-period settings for different trading styles.
Details
The indicator calculates a standard Relative Strength Index (RSI) based on the "Period" input. Unlike a standard RSI oscillator that sits in a separate pane, this script overlays signals directly on price action. For a signal to trigger, the RSI must satisfy the overbought or oversold condition for at least two consecutive bars. This filtering helps reduce noise from singular, momentary spikes beyond the thresholds.
Settings
- Period: Adjusts the lookback period for the RSI calculation. Lower values make the indicator more sensitive.
- RSI Overbought: Sets the upper threshold (default 74) at which the asset is considered overextended to the upside.
- RSI Oversold: Sets the lower threshold (default 24) at which the asset is considered overextended to the downside.
FAQ
How do I access RSI Oversold/Undersold?
You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.
Can I change the sensitivity of the signals?
Yes, by reducing the "Period" setting, the RSI will react faster to price changes, resulting in more frequent signals. Increasing the period will smooth the RSI and produce fewer, more significant signals.
Does this indicator include alerts?
Yes, the script is optimized with alert functionality that triggers when either the overbought or oversold conditions are met, allowing for real-time monitoring without needing to watch the chart constantly.
