Volatility

The Volatility Info indicator provides a streamlined information panel that tracks and displays percentage price changes across three customizable timeframes for multiple symbols simultaneously. This tool helps traders monitor market momentum and volatility across different horizons—such as intraday, daily, and weekly—directly from their main chart.

Usage

The Usage section focuses on monitoring the relative strength and volatility of various assets. By default, the script displays data for BTCUSDT, ETHUSDT, and the current chart symbol.

Traders can use the panel to:

  • Identify synchronized trends across different timeframes (e.g., when 4h, Daily, and Weekly percentages are all positive).
  • Spot assets experiencing higher-than-average volatility relative to the rest of the market.
  • Monitor specific lookback periods to see how current price compares to "n" bars ago on the selected resolutions.

Details

The script utilizes the request.security function to fetch historical price data from different resolutions without needing to switch charts. It calculates the percentage change between the current close and the close of a specified lookback period. The panel is rendered using a label object that updates its position based on the most recent bars and time, ensuring it remains visible on the right side of the price action.

Settings

  • Lookback Period: Determines the number of bars back used to calculate the percentage change (default is 1).
  • 1st Resolution: The first timeframe displayed in the panel (default is 240 minutes / 4 hours).
  • 2nd Resolution: The second timeframe displayed in the panel (default is Daily).
  • 3rd Resolution: The third timeframe displayed in the panel (default is Weekly).

FAQ

How do I access Volatility Info?

You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.

Can I change the symbols displayed?

While the primary settings allow for timeframe adjustments, the symbols (BTC, ETH, and Current Symbol) are integrated into the calculation logic. Users with Pine Script knowledge can modify the symbol strings in the source code to track other assets.

Why do the percentages look different than my daily change?

The "Lookback Period" setting affects the calculation. If set to 1, it compares the current price to the previous candle's close on that specific timeframe. Adjusting this value will change the historical reference point for the volatility calculation.
