The TRAILING STOP LOSS TO LONG AND SHORT strategy tool automates trailing exit logic for long or short positions to lock in profits as the market moves in your favor.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used, particularly as a modular component to be integrated with other entry and exit signals.

  • Trade Management: The script initiates a trade based on entry conditions and immediately sets an initial stop loss.
  • Dynamic Trailing: For long positions, the script "rides up" the stop loss whenever price movement exceeds 1%. For short positions, the stop loss is lowered as price drops.
  • Trade Termination: Positions are automatically closed when the market price crosses the stop loss level or when a specific close condition is met.
  • Backtesting: Users can define a specific date range (Year, Month, Day) to evaluate the performance of the trailing logic over historical data.

Details

The script implements a percentage-based trailing mechanism. Upon entry, the stopLossPrice is calculated using the initialStopLossPercent. As the trade progresses, the script calculates the current strategy percentage relative to the updatedEntryPrice. If the price moves favorably by more than 1%, the stop loss price is adjusted and the reference price is updated. This ensures that the stop loss only moves in the direction of the trade, protecting accrued gains.

  • Initial Stop Loss: Defines the initial percentage distance between the entry price and the stop loss.

FAQ

How do I use this with my own signals?

You can integrate your own technical indicators by modifying the entry and close conditional functions within the Pine Script code to trigger trades based on your specific criteria.

Does the stop loss move both ways?

No, the trailing stop loss is designed to move only in the direction of profit. For long positions, it only moves up; for short positions, it only moves down.
