The CM_Guppy_EMA indicator provides a visual representation of trend strength and direction by analyzing the relationship between two distinct groups of exponential moving averages representing short-term and long-term market sentiment.

Usage

The CM_Guppy_EMA is used to identify the breakout, exhaustion, and strength of market trends. Traders can interpret the indicator through the following behaviors:

  • Trend Identification: A confirmed uptrend is signaled when both the fast and slow EMA groups are stacked in ascending order. A confirmed downtrend is signaled when both groups are stacked in descending order.
  • Neutral Phases: When the EMA groups are overlapping or the sequence is broken, the indicator displays a neutral color. This often precedes a significant move or indicates a period of market consolidation.
  • Support and Resistance: During an established trend, the slow EMA group serves as a zone of dynamic support (in an uptrend) or dynamic resistance (in a downtrend).
  • Entry Timing: Traders often look for "Great Moves" that begin when the ribbon transitions from a neutral state into a trend state. A conservative approach involves waiting for the first or second pullback to the slow EMA group after the trend has been established.

Details

The script is based on the Guppy Multiple Moving Average (GMMA) technical indicator. It utilizes 12 Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs) categorized into two groups:

  1. Short-Term Group (Fast): Typically used to track the activity of speculators.
  2. Long-Term Group (Slow): Typically used to track the activity of long-term investors.

The logic requires all six EMAs in a group to be perfectly aligned to trigger a trend color. If even one EMA is out of sequence, the indicator reverts to a neutral state. This strict criteria helps in filtering out weak trends and identifying high-probability momentum.

Settings

  • Fast EMA 1-6: Defines the periods for the short-term group of exponential moving averages (Defaults: 3, 5, 8, 10, 12, 15).
  • Slow EMA 7-12: Defines the periods for the long-term group of exponential moving averages (Defaults: 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 60).

FAQ

What does the neutral color signify? The neutral color indicates that the moving averages within either the fast or slow groups are not perfectly aligned in a trend sequence, which usually suggests market consolidation or a trend transition.

How are the support and resistance zones determined? The slow EMA group acts as a dynamic zone; in a bullish market, the area between the 30 and 60 EMAs provides support, while in a bearish market, it acts as resistance.
