The Quadruple Moving Averages indicator provides a comprehensive trend analysis framework by plotting four distinct Simple Moving Averages (SMA) on a single chart to help traders identify trend direction, support/resistance levels, and momentum shifts.

Usage

The Usage section focuses on interpreting the relationship between the four different moving average periods. Traders typically use this tool to determine the market regime based on the stacking order of the lines. For example, when the shortest MA is above the longer MAs, the market is considered to be in a bullish trend.

This script can be used for:

  • Trend Identification: Determining the long-term and short-term market direction.
  • Dynamic Support and Resistance: Observing how price reacts when it pulls back to the 50, 100, or 200-period averages.
  • Crossover Signals: Identifying potential entry or exit points when the shorter MA (Length 1) crosses over the secondary MA (Length 2).

Details

The Quadruple Moving Averages tool is built using four standard Simple Moving Average (SMA) calculations. By default, the periods are set to 14, 50, 100, and 200, which are industry-standard benchmarks for short, medium, and long-term trend analysis.

The script includes built-in alert logic for crossovers between the first two moving averages. This allows users to receive notifications when a short-term trend shift occurs relative to a medium-term baseline. The implementation ensures that the script remains lightweight while providing the most essential data points for trend-following strategies.

Settings

  • Length 1: Sets the period for the first SMA (default 14). This is the fastest-moving line used for short-term momentum.
  • Length 2: Sets the period for the second SMA (default 50). This acts as a medium-term trend filter.
  • Length 3: Sets the period for the third SMA (default 100). This provides a long-term perspective on price action.
  • Length 4: Sets the period for the fourth SMA (default 200). This is widely recognized as a major institutional trend level.
  • Source: Determines the price data used for the calculations (default is the closing price).
