The Quartile Footprint Bubbles indicator provides real-time intrabar volume and delta analysis at critical market structure levels to identify liquidity zones and directional pressure.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used to interpret order flow at specific structural boundaries. The tool calculates a trading range based on a lookback period and divides it into five zones: 100% (Sellers Defense), 75% (Upper Quartile), 50% (Structural Pivot), 25% (Lower Quartile), and 0% (Buyers Defense).

When price interacts with these levels, the indicator generates concentric bubbles at the intrabar Point of Control (POC):

  • Defending Extremes: Look for large green bubbles at the 0% or 25% levels to identify buyer support, or large red bubbles at the 75% or 100% levels to identify seller resistance.
  • Trend Context: The 50% Equilibrium acts as a pivot; price maintaining levels above this with bullish delta on pullbacks suggests a bullish trend, while the opposite suggests bearishness.
  • Absorption Identification: Large outer bubbles (high total volume) paired with small inner bubbles (low net delta) indicate institutional absorption, suggesting that a price level is being defended despite high participation.

Details

The script utilizes request.security_lower_tf to scan lower timeframe (LTF) data within each bar. This allows the indicator to pinpoint the exact micro-price level where the highest volume occurred (the Point of Control) rather than simply plotting at the high or low.

The visualization uses a 5-tier percentile algorithm (based on the 50th, 75th, 90th, and 97th percentiles) to determine the size of the bubbles.

  • Outer Bubble (Volume Mass): Scales based on total volume relative to the lookback period, representing total market participation.
  • Inner Bubble (Delta Pressure): Scales based on net bid/ask delta, colored green for aggressive buying and red for aggressive selling.
  • Labels: Optionally displays numerical values for total volume (top) and net delta (bottom) at the POC.

Settings

Quartile Structure

  • Lookback Period: Defines the number of bars used to calculate the highest high and lowest low for the quartile grid.
  • Visibility Toggles: Individual checkboxes and color pickers for the 100%, 75%, 50%, 25%, and 0% levels.

Order Flow Bubbles

  • Enable Bubbles: Toggles the visibility of the bubble visualizations.
  • Outer — Volume Mass: Enables the background bubble representing total volume.
  • Inner — Delta Pressure: Enables the foreground bubble representing net delta.
  • Bubble Size Offset: Adjusts the visual scaling of bubbles (+1 to enlarge, -1 to shrink) to suit different chart densities.

Labels

  • Show Volume and Delta Labels: Toggles numerical data labels at the POC.
  • Label Size: Sets the size of the text labels (Tiny, Small, Normal, Large).

Advanced

  • LTF Resolution: The timeframe used to scan for intrabar POC and Delta. It is recommended to set this significantly lower than the chart timeframe (e.g., 1-minute LTF for a 15-minute chart).

FAQ

How do I interpret the bubble colors? The inner bubble color represents net delta; green indicates that aggressive buying volume exceeded selling volume at that specific price level, while red indicates aggressive selling.

What does it mean if the bubbles are very large? Large bubbles indicate that the volume or delta at that price level is in the highest percentiles (e.g., top 3-10%) relative to the recent lookback period, suggesting significant institutional interest.
