The Support and Resistance Power Channel indicator helps traders visualize key support and resistance zones, along with buy and sell power within those areas, to identify potential price reversals and market strength.

Usage

The tool identifies dynamic support (lower zone) and resistance (upper zone) levels based on the highest and lowest price points within a user-defined lookback period.

  • Support and Resistance Zones: These customizable zones provide a visual representation of price floors and ceilings. Traders can use these to predict areas of consolidation or potential trend reversals.
  • Buy and Sell Power: Within the support zone, the tool calculates "Buy Power" based on the count of bullish candles. Conversely, the resistance zone calculates "Sell Power" based on bearish candles. This quantification helps traders assess whether a zone is likely to hold or break.
  • Price Levels and Midline: The indicator marks the absolute high and low of the channel with "X" markers and labels. A dotted midline represents the channel average, often serving as a retest level during trending markets.
  • Delayed Signals: To filter out market noise and false breakouts, the script includes signal markers (diamonds/arrows). These are generated when the price confirmedly crosses out of the zones, providing a more conservative entry or exit signal.
  • Forward Projection: The zones can be extended into the future, allowing traders to plan trades around historical levels that remain relevant for upcoming price action.

Details

The indicator utilizes an ATR-based offset (0.5 * ATR 200) to create the width of the support and resistance boxes around the identified price extremes. This ensures that the zones are not just single lines but areas that account for recent market volatility. The "Power" calculation is a frequency-based metric, summing the occurrences of candle direction within the lookback window to gauge the dominance of bulls or bears at the channel extremes.

Settings

  • Length: The number of bars used to calculate the highest highs and lowest lows for the channel.
  • Extend: The number of bars the zones and lines are projected into the future.
  • Top Color: Adjusts the color for the resistance zone and sell signals.
  • Bottom Color: Adjusts the color for the support zone and buy signals.

FAQ

How do I use the Power metric?

A high "Buy Power" in the support zone suggests strong historical interest from buyers in that area, while a high "Sell Power" in the resistance zone indicates significant bearish pressure.

What do the "X" marks represent?

The "X" markers pinpoint the exact price bar that established the current channel's high and low points.
