The RSI + Moving Average indicator provides a comprehensive momentum analysis tool by overlaying multiple customizable moving averages onto a Relative Strength Index (RSI) with integrated breakout and crossover signals.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used to identify momentum shifts and trend reversals. Traders can use this tool to monitor when the RSI enters or exits extreme zones and how it interacts with secondary smoothing lines.

  • Breakout Signals: These appear when the RSI crosses above the Over Sold threshold or below the Over Bought threshold, signaling a potential return to mean or a shift in momentum.
  • MA Crossovers: The indicator tracks when the RSI line crosses over or under up to three independent moving averages. An RSI crossing above its MA typically suggests increasing bullish momentum, while a cross below suggests bearish momentum.
  • Zone Analysis: By using the customizable Over Bought and Over Sold areas, users can identify high-probability reversal zones and trend exhaustion points.

Details

The script calculates a standard RSI based on the user-defined source and length. It then applies up to three separate moving average calculations directly to the RSI values. Users can choose from several moving average types, including:

  • HMA (Hull Moving Average): Known for reduced lag and improved smoothing.
  • SMA (Simple Moving Average): A basic arithmetic mean of the RSI values.
  • EMA (Exponential Moving Average): Places more weight on recent RSI values.
  • SMMA/RMA (Smoothed Moving Average): Commonly used within the standard RSI calculation itself.
  • WMA (Weighted Moving Average): Linearly weighted for more responsiveness.
  • VWMA (Volume Weighted Moving Average): Incorporates volume data into the smoothing process.

The indicator also includes visual aids such as color fills between defined RSI levels and specialized plot shapes for crossovers.

Settings

  • RSI: Toggle the RSI visibility, color, and period length.
  • Moving Averages (№1, №2, №3): Individual toggles for three different MAs, allowing users to select the MA type (SMA, EMA, HMA, etc.), color, and length for each.
  • Horizontal Areas: Options to toggle the center line (50 level) and background color fills between the overbought and oversold zones.
  • Over Bought/Over Sold: Define the primary thresholds (e.g., 55 and 45) and the outer boundaries (Top/Bottom) for the shaded zones.
  • Signals: Toggle circles for RSI breakouts from extreme zones and cross-shapes for RSI/MA crossovers. Each signal type includes independent color and size adjustments.

FAQ

How do I interpret the circles and crosses on the RSI line? Circles represent "Breakout Signals" where the RSI moves back into the neutral zone from an overbought or oversold level. Crosses represent "Crossover Signals" where the RSI line crosses one of its Moving Averages.

Can I use multiple moving averages at the same time? Yes, the script allows you to enable up to three distinct moving averages, each with its own type and length, to create a "ribbon" effect or look for multiple confirmations.
