Moving Averages

The Binance Moving Averages indicator provides users with the three default Simple Moving Averages (SMAs) used on the Binance exchange interface, allowing traders to monitor the same key technical levels utilized by a significant portion of the cryptocurrency market.

Usage

The Usage of this tool centers on identifying trend direction and potential support or resistance levels based on the 7, 25, and 99 periods. Traders typically use these levels to align their analysis with the default settings seen by millions of exchange users, which can lead to self-fulfilling price reactions at these coordinates.

The indicator is frequently applied to the 4-hour (4h) timeframe to identify medium-term trend shifts. Common strategies include:

  • Trend Identification: Price remaining above all three averages suggests a strong bullish trend, while price below them suggests a bearish trend.
  • Momentum Crossovers: The script includes built-in alerts for when the faster MAs cross the slower MAs (e.g., 7 SMA crossing 25 SMA), signaling potential changes in market momentum.
  • Dynamic Support/Resistance: The 25 and 99 SMAs often act as zones where price pullbacks find support during established trends.

Details

The Binance Moving Averages tool is constructed using three Simple Moving Average (SMA) calculations based on the closing price of each bar. The script replicates the specific visual style of the Binance platform to ensure chart consistency for traders moving between the exchange and third-party charting software.

The execution includes logic for four specific alert conditions:

  1. SMA 1 crossing over SMA 2.
  2. SMA 1 crossing under SMA 2.
  3. SMA 2 crossing over SMA 3.
  4. SMA 2 crossing under SMA 3.

By default, the 7-period SMA represents short-term price action, the 25-period reflects intermediate momentum, and the 99-period serves as a long-term trend baseline.

Settings

  • SMA #1: Determines the lookback period for the first moving average (Default: 7).
  • SMA #2: Determines the lookback period for the second moving average (Default: 25).
  • SMA #3: Determines the lookback period for the third moving average (Default: 99).
  • Line Width: Adjusts the thickness of the SMA plots on the chart for better visibility.

FAQ

What timeframes are best for these settings? While these moving averages can be used on any timeframe, they are most commonly respected on the 4-hour and Daily charts due to their popularity among high-volume crypto traders.

Can I use these MAs for assets other than crypto? Yes, while these specific lengths (7, 25, 99) are popularized by the Binance exchange, the mathematical logic of the SMAs can be applied to stocks, forex, or commodities.
