- Trend Identification: The plot changes color based on its current slope. A green line indicates a rising (bullish) trend, while a red line indicates a falling (bearish) trend.
- Momentum Sensitivity: By adjusting the Temperature parameter, users can control how quickly the average reacts to recent price spikes versus historical data.
- Noise Reduction: The built-in EMA smoothing allows the indicator to remain stable during volatile periods, providing a clearer signal for entry or exit points.

The BWMA applies a Boltzmann-like distribution formula to determine the weight of each price point within a lookback window. The core logic follows the formula: weight = math.exp(-energy / (k_B * T)).
In this implementation, "Energy" is a function of time, increasing as data points move further into the past. The "Temperature" (T) parameter acts as the primary regulator of the weighting curve. A low temperature creates a steep decay, making the indicator hyper-responsive to the most recent bars. Conversely, a high temperature creates a more uniform weight distribution, causing the indicator to behave more like a Simple Moving Average (SMA). To further stabilize the output, an Exponential Moving Average (EMA) is applied to the final weighted value to ensure the slope changes are meaningful and not caused by minor price flickers.
Settings
- Boltzmann Window Period: Sets the number of historical bars used to calculate the weighted average.
- Temperature (T): Controls the decay of weights. Lower values increase the emphasis on recent price action, while higher values distribute weights more evenly across the period.
- Alpha (Energy Scale): Adjusts the rate at which "Energy" increases for older data points, influencing the steepness of the weighting decay.
- EMA Smoothing Period: Defines the length of the EMA applied to the Boltzmann-weighted result to produce a smoother line.
