The Moving Average Compendium Refurbished indicator provides a comprehensive library of over 60 moving average variations within a single tool to offer traders maximum flexibility in trend analysis and smoothing.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used, examples should be provided in this section. This section also focuses on how main settings affect the indicator interpretation and output.

Traders can utilize this script to compare different smoothing methods or find the specific moving average that best fits a particular asset's volatility. For example, a trader might select the Kaufman's Adaptive Moving Average (KAMA) to account for noise in a trending market or the Zero-Lag Exponential Moving Average (ZEMA) to reduce the inherent delay found in standard calculations.

The indicator also features visual feedback systems:

  • Trend Coloring: The moving average line changes color based on whether the source price is above or below the average.
  • Bar Coloring: Optional candle coloring allows users to visualize the trend direction relative to the selected average directly on the price bars.
  • Volume Weighting: Users can toggle volume-weighting for any of the selected averages, transforming standard calculations into volume-sensitive indicators.

Details

The script utilizes a proxy library to aggregate a vast array of calculations ranging from classic arithmetic averages to complex adaptive and recursive models. Key inclusions are Ehlers’ various transforms (EDSMA, EFRAMA), Jurik Moving Averages, and volatility-adjusted types.

The logic behind the "Refurbished" version includes optimized Pine Script V6 execution, alert functionality for price crossovers, and the ability to apply volume-weighting to types that do not natively support it (such as ALMA or HMA), providing a unique "Volume Weighted" hybrid for every option in the list.

Settings

  • Type: Selects the specific calculation model (e.g., SMA, EMA, JURIK, FRAMA, etc.).
  • Length: Determines the lookback period for the moving average calculation.
  • Source: Sets the input data used for calculation (default is Close).
  • Offset: Shifts the moving average plot forward or backward on the horizontal axis.
  • Volume Weighted Moving Average?: When enabled, it applies volume weighting to the selected moving average type.
  • Change line colors when moving average is below or above source?: Toggles dynamic line coloring based on price position.
  • Change bar colors when source are below or above MA?: Toggles price bar/candle coloring based on the current trend relative to the MA.
  • Color Pickers (Bullish/Bearish/Neutral): Customizes the visual output for both the line and bar colors.

FAQ

How many types of moving averages are included? There are over 60 types available, including adaptive, fractal, triangular, and zero-lag variations.
