The Volume Area Profile indicator visualizes key price zones derived from volume cluster analysis to highlight significant support and resistance areas directly on the chart.

Usage

The Usage section focuses on translating data from cluster charts into actionable visual zones on the trading interface. Traders typically perform an external analysis of volume distributions (such as horizontal volume or market profiles) and then input the identified high-activity price ranges into this tool.

Once the coordinates are defined, the indicator renders shaded regions that serve as:

  • Resistance Zones: Visualized at the top of the range, indicating where selling pressure previously concentrated.
  • Support Zones: Visualized at the bottom of the range, indicating where buying interest was historically high.

The tool is particularly useful for identifying potential reversal points when price enters these predefined zones. Built-in alerts are triggered when the price crosses into these boundaries, allowing traders to monitor multiple assets for volume-based reactions without manual oversight.

Details

The Volume Area Profile is based on the concept of horizontal volume distribution. Unlike traditional volume indicators that appear at the bottom of the chart, this tool focuses on the price levels where the most significant trading activity occurred.

The script was originally conceptualized for Gold Futures (GC!) based on specific historical data points, but it has been refactored for general use across any asset class. It utilizes plot and fill functions to create clear, color-coded bands. The logic includes crossover and crossunder detection to identify when the current price action interacts with the user-defined volume clusters.

Settings

  • Resistance Max: Defines the upper boundary of the resistance zone.
  • Resistance Min: Defines the lower boundary of the resistance zone.
  • Support Max: Defines the upper boundary of the support zone.
  • Support Min: Defines the lower boundary of the support zone.

FAQ

How do I determine the values for the Resistance and Support inputs? Users should analyze volume cluster charts or market profiles to identify price levels with high trading volume. These price levels are then entered into the settings to create the visual zones.

Does the indicator update its zones automatically? No, this specific indicator is designed for manual input based on static volume analysis or specific historical sessions, ensuring the zones remain fixed at the trader's points of interest.
