The JRockets MACD indicator provides a customized momentum-based signaling system designed to identify trend shifts and exhaustion levels specifically optimized for the 15-minute timeframe.

Usage

The Usage section describes how to interpret the signals generated by the oscillator and its histogram components.

  • Trend Crossovers: A bullish signal is generated when the blue MACD line crosses above the red Signal line, particularly when occurring below the zero level. Conversely, a bearish signal occurs when the red Signal line crosses above the blue MACD line, typically at the top of the indicator range.
  • Momentum Histogram: The histogram serves as a visual representation of volume and momentum. A dark green bar indicates strong bullish momentum, while a light green bar suggests the momentum is beginning to fade. Similarly, a dark red bar indicates strong bearish pressure, transitioning to light red as selling momentum weakens.
  • Divergence: Users can monitor the relationship between price action and the MACD peaks to identify potential divergences, which may signal upcoming trend reversals.

This indicator is specifically locked to the 15-minute timeframe by default to maintain consistency with its intended design, though it can be utilized for confluence alongside key support and resistance levels.

Details

The JRockets MACD is constructed using a faster-reacting configuration than the standard MACD (12, 26, 9). It utilizes an 8-period fast length and a 14-period slow length to calculate the main oscillator line. The difference between these two averages is then smoothed by an 11-period signal line.

The script allows for flexibility in calculation methods, enabling users to switch between Exponential Moving Averages (EMA) and Simple Moving Averages (SMA) for both the oscillator and the signal line. The histogram color logic is based on a four-color gradient that compares the current histogram value to its previous state, providing an immediate visual cue for momentum acceleration or deceleration.

Settings

Inputs

  • Source: Determines the price data used for the calculations (default is Close).
  • Fast Length: The period for the shorter-term moving average (default 8).
  • Slow Length: The period for the longer-term moving average (default 14).
  • Signal Length: The smoothing period applied to the MACD line to create the signal line (default 11).
  • Oscillator MA Type: Allows selection between EMA or SMA for the fast and slow calculations.
  • Signal MA Type: Allows selection between EMA or SMA for the signal line calculation.

FAQ

What makes this different from a standard MACD?

This version uses shorter lookback periods (8, 14, 11) compared to the standard settings, making it more responsive to short-term price fluctuations on the 15-minute timeframe. It also includes a color-coded momentum histogram for better visual interpretation of trend strength.

Can I use this on other timeframes?

While the script is optimized and locked to the 15-minute timeframe in its original configuration, the calculation logic remains valid for other intraday periods like the 1-minute or 1-hour charts if adjusted in the source code or settings.
