Inverted SD Dema RSI
Sep 5, 2024

The Inverted SD Dema RSI indicator combines the Double Exponential Moving Average (DEMA), Standard Deviation (SD), and Relative Strength Index (RSI) to provide a responsive trend-following tool that accounts for market volatility and momentum shifts.
Usage
The Inverted SD Dema RSI can be used to identify trend direction and momentum exhaustion. Traders can interpret the indicator based on the following signals:
- Uptrend Identification: A long signal is generated when the RSI of the DEMA exceeds the upper threshold (default 70) while the price remains above the lower standard deviation band. This indicates strong positive momentum.
- Downtrend Identification: A short signal occurs when the RSI falls below the lower threshold (default 55), suggesting a shift toward bearish momentum.
- Volatility Filtering: The integration of Standard Deviation bands allows the script to filter out noise, ensuring that signals are only generated when price movement is significant relative to recent volatility.
Details
The indicator's logic is built upon three primary components:
- DEMA Calculation: The Double Exponential Moving Average is used to smooth price data with significantly less lag than a standard EMA.
- RSI Application: Rather than applying RSI to raw price data, it is applied to the smoothed DEMA values. This helps in detecting momentum shifts within the established trend rather than reacting to minor price spikes.
- Volatility Bands: Standard Deviation is calculated on the DEMA to establish dynamic upper and lower thresholds. These bands help determine if the current price action is overextended or confirming a trend.
Settings
- DEMA Length: Controls the period used to smooth the price data, impacting the overall sensitivity of the core trend line.
- SD Length: Defines the lookback period for the Standard Deviation calculation, which determines the width of the volatility bands.
- RSI Length: Adjusts the period used for the momentum calculation applied to the DEMA.
- Threshold Uptrend: Sets the RSI level required to trigger a bullish trend signal (Default: 70).
- Threshold Downtrend: Sets the RSI level required to trigger a bearish trend signal (Default: 55).
FAQ
How do I use the Inverted SD Dema RSI?
You can use it to identify trend reversals or continuations by watching the RSI color changes and background highlights which signal shifts in momentum and volatility-adjusted price positioning.
What makes this different from a standard RSI?
Unlike a standard RSI that uses raw price, this version uses a DEMA-smoothed input and filters signals through Standard Deviation bands to reduce false signals in sideways markets.
