The Rising & Falling Window Signals indicator is a powerful tool designed to help traders identify critical support and resistance zones on their charts through the recognition of Rising & Falling Window formations, derived from Steve Nison's methodologies. These formations indicate strong market momentum, offering insights into potential price continuations and reversals.

With adaptable filtering options, traders can customize the indicator to display zones of specific width, enabling them to concentrate on the most impactful areas for better trading decisions.

How to Trade the Rising & Falling Window Signals Indicator?

indicator image

A Rising or Falling Window occurs when the wicks of two successive candlesticks do not overlap, creating a gap. This gap represents a significant market sentiment indicating future upward or downward direction, which traders can capitalize on.

indicator image

  • A Rising Window generally suggests a forthcoming bullish trend.
  • A Falling Window typically points to an impending bearish trend.

Once a window forms, it acts as a potential support and resistance zone where price could return and react.

Extreme levels of a window are often used as support/resistance markers, with the opposite extremes considered the strongest points. For broader windows, the midpoint is the strongest level. A window ceases to provide support once the price breaks through it.

Key Features of the Indicator

The script's simplicity lies in its pragmatic approach to utilizing window-based strategies with user-oriented size and mitigation controls, providing a seamless user experience.

Horizontal Zone Control

This feature allows for the adjustment of zone extension and display, without affecting zone detection itself.

  • Maximum Live Zone Length: Controls the maximum lifetime of a zone, ceasing extension when mitigated or when the preset length is reached.
  • Minimum Inactive Zone Length: Suppresses displays of shorter, irrelevant zones, refining the chart view.

  • Extend Historical Zones on Touch: Makes historical zones dynamic when pricings return to them, extending the zone to the current bar.

Vertical Zone Control

This function filters windows based on desired width, using ATR multipliers to establish boundaries.

  • Minimum Width: Filters out zones narrower than ATR * Minimum Width.
  • Maximum Width: Filters out zones wider than ATR * Maximum Width.

Signal Detection Types

The indicator identifies interactions with zones through three signal types, each providing unique insights into market behaviors:

Note: The examples below illustrate bullish (rising window) signals.

  • Regular: Activates upon price surpassing an unmitigated zone's upper limit.
  • Engulfing: Triggers during a bullish engulfing pattern when candlestick wicks contact the zone.
  • Wick: Fires when a down candle closes above a zone, with its low below the zone's upper boundary.
