Regime-Adaptive Trend Engine
May 30, 2026

The Regime-Adaptive Trend Engine indicator dynamically adjusts the SuperTrend ATR multiplier based on real-time market regime detection to optimize entries and reduce noise. By moving away from a static multiplier, the tool automatically tightens tracking during high-conviction trends and widens parameters during market consolidation to prevent whipsaws.
Usage
The Usage section describes how the script can be used to navigate different market environments. The indicator classifies the market into three distinct states, which dictate how a trader should interpret the signals:
- Trending Markets (Score ≥ 0.7): When the dashboard indicates a high regime score, the ATR multiplier is tightened (typically 2.0–2.9x). This allows for earlier entries into emerging trends and a closer trailing stop.
- Transition Phases (Score 0.4–0.7): The multiplier shifts to a balanced range (2.9–4.1x), providing a buffer as the trend loses momentum or begins to stabilize.
- Choppy Conditions (Score < 0.4): The engine automatically expands the multiplier (up to 5.0x). In this state, traders should exercise caution as the wider bands are designed to filter out "market noise" and false signals.
Users can monitor the real-time dashboard in the top-right corner to identify the current market state (Green for Trend, Blue for Transition, Red for Chop) and use the visual background gradients to gauge the confidence level of the current regime.
Details
The script's execution is centered on a 4-component weighted regime score that calculates market efficiency and strength:
- ADX Strength (30% weight): Uses a normalized ADX (15–35 range) to measure the raw strength of the directional movement.
- Volatility Ratio (30% weight): Compares short-term ATR to long-term ATR expansion to detect volatility breakouts.
- Price Efficiency (25% weight): Calculates the ratio of net price movement against total price travel (noise) over a specific lookback period.
- Trend Consistency (15% weight): Measures the percentage of bars within a lookback period that align with the current price bias.
The final combined score is smoothed via an EMA to ensure the adaptive multiplier transitions fluidly. The SuperTrend logic itself includes clamping mechanisms to ensure that the bands remain non-repainting and provide reliable historical data.
Settings
Regime Detection
- ADX Length: Sets the lookback period for the Average Directional Index calculation.
- Volatility Short/Long Period: Defines the window for comparing short-term ATR against the long-term baseline to determine volatility expansion.
- Efficiency Length: The number of bars used to calculate price efficiency (net move vs. total noise).
- Consistency Length: The lookback period for determining the percentage of bars moving in the trend direction.
Adaptive Multiplier
- Min Multiplier (Trend): The lowest ATR multiplier used during high-strength trending regimes.
- Max Multiplier (Chop): The highest ATR multiplier used during low-strength or choppy regimes.
- ATR Length: The period used for the underlying ATR calculation in the SuperTrend engine.
Visualization
- Show Dashboard: Toggles the on-screen table displaying regime state, score, and current multiplier.
- Show Entry/Exit Signals: Toggles "LONG" and "SHORT" labels at trend change points.
- Show Regime Background: Toggles the color-coded background gradient that represents trend confidence.
FAQ
How do I interpret the regime score? The regime score is a percentage from 0% to 100%. Higher scores indicate a strong, efficient trend where the indicator is more sensitive, while lower scores indicate a noisy or range-bound market where the indicator becomes more conservative.
Does this indicator repaint? No, the Regime-Adaptive Trend Engine is designed to use only confirmed bar data. Once a bar closes, the signal and the band positions are fixed.
How can I access the Regime-Adaptive Trend Engine? You can get access on the LuxAlgo Library for charting platforms like TradingView, MetaTrader (MT4/MT5), and NinjaTrader for free.
