The Strong Range Breakouts tool power-ranks market consolidations to identify high-quality compression zones and predict the likely direction of the ensuing breakout. It provides real-time scoring, directional bias probabilities, and automated trade framing with stop-loss and take-profit targets.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used to identify and trade consolidation patterns. It is designed to filter out "noisy" sideways movement and focus on ranges with measurable compression.

  • Identifying High-Quality Ranges: Look for zones labeled as "STRONG," "VERY STRONG," or "ELITE" (scores ≥ 7). These indicate significant volatility contraction and a higher probability of a clean breakout.
  • Directional Bias: Each zone displays a predicted breakout direction (▲ for bullish, ▼ for bearish) based on internal price distribution and momentum. Users can prioritize trades where the price breaks in the direction of the bias.
  • Executing Breakouts: Use the "Buy-Stop" and "Sell-Stop" levels (dashed lines) as entry triggers. A confirmed close beyond these levels signifies a breakout.
  • Fading Traps: For low-scored ("WEAK") zones or breakouts that immediately fail to hold beyond the zone edge, the tool can be used to identify "fakes" or sweeps, targeting the opposite side of the range.
  • Performance Tracking: Use the on-chart dashboard to monitor the historical win rate and expectancy of breakouts on the specific symbol and timeframe being traded.

Details

The script utilizes a multi-factor power-ranking system (0–10) to grade consolidations. This system is built on five self-calibrating factors:

  • Trend Flatness (ADX): Measures if the market is non-trending.
  • Volatility Squeeze: Uses Bollinger Band width percentiles to detect contraction.
  • Range Tightness: Evaluates the height of the current range relative to recent history.
  • Volume Dry-Up: Identifies periods of low participation often associated with accumulation or distribution.
  • Price Balance: Uses RSI levels to confirm a lack of immediate directional pressure.

The directional probability (▲/▼) is calculated using price positioning within the range, time spent in the upper vs. lower halves, and asymmetry in touches of the range edges. Once a breakout is detected, the indicator projects structural or ATR-based exit levels.

Settings

Detection

  • Minimum Zone Score (0–10): Filters zones; only consolidations reaching this score will be displayed.
  • Minimum Zone Span (bars): The number of bars price must consolidate before a zone is formed.
  • Maximum Zone Span (bars): The limit after which an unbroken zone is retired.

Breakout & Trade Tracking

  • Breakout Confirmation: Choose between "Close" (candle close beyond level) or "Wick" (immediate touch) for triggers.
  • Stop Buffer (% of zone height): Adds a distance buffer to the range edges for entry levels.
  • Stop-Loss Basis: Sets the SL location based on the opposite edge, zone midpoint, or an ATR multiple.
  • TP1/TP2/TP3 (R multiple): Configures risk-to-reward targets for the win-rate dashboard.
  • Win Counts When: Determines which TP target must be hit to classify a trade as a "win" in the stats.

Strength Engine

  • Scoring Weights: Adjust the influence of ADX, Squeeze, Tightness, Volume, and RSI Balance on the total score.

Style & Dashboard

  • Color Theme: Customize the bullish/bearish colors and transparency for different strength tiers.
  • Show Statistics Dashboard: Toggles the visibility of the performance panel.

FAQ

How do I interpret the zone score? The score represents the quality of the consolidation on a scale of 0 to 10. Scores above 7 are considered strong, while scores above 9 are elite. Higher scores generally correlate with more decisive breakouts.

What does the percentage probability in the label mean? It indicates the statistical likelihood of the price breaking out in a specific direction (UP or DOWN) based on the internal price action and momentum within that specific range.
