Options Volume Profile
Apr 21, 2025

The Options Volume Profile indicator visualizes institutional options market activity by plotting call and put volumes across multiple strikes directly on the price chart. This tool bridges the gap between technical price action and options flow, allowing traders to identify sentiment, liquidity zones, and potential support or resistance levels based on real-time options data.
Usage
The Usage section describes how the script can be used to interpret market positioning. Users can apply the indicator to identify high-interest price levels where institutional traders are positioned.
- Strike Selection: Users can configure the number of strikes to display above and below the At-The-Money (ATM) price. This allows for a granular view of the options chain surrounding current price action or a custom reference strike.
- Expiration Management: The tool allows for specific expiration date targeting (Year, Month, Day), enabling traders to focus on specific Opex (Option Expiration) cycles or zero-days-to-expiration (0DTE) activity.
- Volume Profile Interpretation: The horizontal bars represent the total volume at specific strike prices. A large concentration of call volume at a higher strike may act as a resistance "magnet" or target, while heavy put volume below may indicate a significant support floor.
- Summary Table: An on-screen table provides a detailed breakdown of call/put ratios, volume deltas, and price changes. This helps in spotting unusual options activity or rapid shifts in sentiment without leaving the main chart.
Details
The script utilizes dynamic data requests to fetch options volume for various symbols and strikes. It includes several technical components:
- Point of Control (POC): Identifies the strike price with the single highest total options volume, serving as the primary institutional pivot.
- Value Area (VA): Calculates the range of strikes (defaulting to 70%) where the majority of options volume is concentrated. This is visualized as a cloud or set of lines (VAH/VAL) to define the "fair value" zone of the options market.
- BK Daily Range: A secondary volume threshold (defaulting to 20k volume) that identifies significant secondary liquidity pools outside the primary value area.
- Black-Scholes Integration: The tool incorporates options pricing logic (Risk-Free Rate, Dividend Yield) to provide deeper context into the Greeks and directional bias.
Settings

Strike & Expiration
- Strikes Above/Below ATM: Controls the vertical depth of the profile.
- Use Today's Date: Automatically updates the expiry to the current session when enabled.
- Strike Spacing/Rounding: Calibrates the price intervals between strikes to match different asset classes (e.g., 1.0 for SPY, 5.0 or 10.0 for SPX).
Visualization
- Bar Offset/Width: Controls the horizontal positioning and maximum width of the volume bars.
- Value Area Percentage: Sets the volume threshold for the Value Area calculation.
- Show Cloud: Toggles the background shading between Value Area High (VAH) and Value Area Low (VAL).
- Ranked Volume Colors: Customizable colors for the top three strikes by volume to highlight the most significant institutional levels.
FAQ
How do I interpret the Point of Control (POC) on the chart? The POC represents the strike price with the highest total volume. It often acts as a significant level where institutional activity is most dense, frequently serving as a target or a pivot point for price action.
Can I use this for specific stocks or only for indices like SPX? The indicator is designed to work with any symbol that has available options data on the platform. You can manually adjust strike spacing and symbols in the "Symbol & Data" and "Strike Configuration" settings.
