The Supertrend Extensions indicator projects a dynamic sequence of deviation levels from trend flip events to provide structured targets and volume-based participation tracking. It uses volatility-calibrated spacing to map trend extensions, allowing traders to monitor how price progresses through various milestones with real-time participation data.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used to track trend development and identify key structural targets.

  • Trend Identification: The script uses a Supertrend band as a directional anchor. A green state indicates a bullish trend, while a red state indicates a bearish trend.
  • Extension Mapping: Upon every trend flip, the tool projects a set of numbered extension levels. These serve as pre-calculated targets based on the instrument's average range.
  • Volume Capture: As price crosses a deviation level, the level converts from a solid line to a dashed reference. The label updates from a number to the specific volume recorded at the time of the crossing, allowing you to gauge the conviction behind the move.
  • Participation Intensity: Optional candle coloring adjusts based on volume relative to its standard deviation. Brighter candles signify high-volume conviction, while muted colors suggest lower participation.

Details

The Supertrend Extensions combines four internal systems to manage the lifecycle of a trend:

  1. Deviation Level Projection: Uses a 100-bar SMA of the high-low range to determine spacing. This ensures that targets are mathematically relevant to the specific instrument's recent volatility.
  2. Level Management: Uses an array-based system to clear old levels and project new ones exactly at the flip bar's close.
  3. Crossing Detection: The engine monitors bar highs (for bullish moves) and lows (for bearish moves) to trigger the volume-capture mechanism.
  4. Volume Normalization: Volume is divided by its 200-bar rolling standard deviation to create a score (capped at 4.0), which drives the visual intensity of the candle colors.

Settings

Supertrend

  • ATR Multiplier: Determines the width of the Supertrend band. Higher values reduce noise and produce fewer flips; lower values increase responsiveness.
  • ATR Length: The lookback period for calculating Average True Range, affecting the stability of the trailing band.

Deviation Levels

  • Deviation Size: A multiplier applied to the average candle range to set the distance between extension levels. Increase this for wider targets on volatile assets.
  • Deviation Count: Sets the total number of extension levels (up to 6) projected for each trend cycle.

Display

  • Show Signals: Toggles the triangle labels (▲/▼) and price markers at the point of trend flips.
  • Color Candles: Enables volume-weighted candle coloring based on the current trend.
  • Bullish/Bearish Color: Customizes the visual colors for the trend states, levels, and signals.

FAQ

How do I interpret the dashed lines with numbers on them?
The dashed lines represent extension levels that have already been reached. The numbers displayed on these lines show the volume of the bar that initially crossed the level, providing a record of participation at that milestone.

Why did my extension levels disappear and reset?
The extension levels are anchored to the origin of the current trend. When the Supertrend band flips direction, the previous levels are cleared and a new set is projected based on the new flip price.
