The SBER Delta Moving Average indicator measures the rate of change of an Exponential Moving Average (EMA) to identify shifts in momentum and trend velocity. By calculating the percentage difference between current and historical EMA values, it provides traders with a normalized view of trend acceleration and deceleration.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used, examples should be provided in this section. This tool functions as a momentum oscillator centered around a zero line.

  • Trend Direction: When the indicator is above zero, the underlying EMA is in an uptrend; when below zero, the EMA is in a downtrend.
  • Momentum Shifts: The color-coded line indicates whether the rate of change is increasing (bullish momentum) or decreasing (bearish momentum). A green line signifies that the current Delta is higher than it was a specified number of bars ago, while a red line signifies a decrease.
  • Zero-Line Crosses: Crossing the zero line serves as a signal that the price trend is reversing based on the EMA's slope.

Details

The SBER Delta Moving Average is constructed by first applying an Exponential Moving Average to the price data. It then calculates the Rate of Change (ROC) of that EMA using the formula: 100 * (Current EMA - Past EMA) / Past EMA.

By focusing on the ROC of the average rather than the price itself, the script filters out minor price fluctuations (noise) and highlights the velocity of the trend. The visual logic compares the current ROC value against its previous value from the "ROC len" period to determine the color of the plot, effectively acting as a second-derivative analysis of price movement.

Settings

  • EMA len: The lookback period for the initial Exponential Moving Average. Higher values result in a smoother, slower-reacting indicator.
  • ROC len: The lookback period used to calculate the percentage change of the EMA. This also determines the offset used for the color-change logic and directional alerts.

FAQ

How do I interpret the color changes on the SBER Delta Moving Average? A green line indicates that the trend velocity is accelerating upward or decelerating downward (bullish momentum), while a red line indicates the trend velocity is decelerating upward or accelerating downward (bearish momentum).

What does a cross above the zero line mean? A cross above zero indicates that the EMA has turned positive, suggesting the start of a bullish trend. Conversely, a cross below zero suggests the EMA has turned negative, indicating a bearish trend.
