The Multi Time Frame Compatible Simple Moving Average indicator plots essential daily moving average levels across any chart resolution, providing consistent technical support and resistance zones regardless of the selected timeframe.

Usage

The Usage section describes how the script can be used to maintain perspective on long-term trends while trading on lower timeframes. This tool is particularly useful for day traders who need to monitor institutional levels, such as the 50-day or 200-day SMA, without constantly switching between daily and intraday charts.

For example, a trader using a 5-minute chart can overlay the 200-day moving average to identify major trend direction or potential reversal points. The indicator includes several common moving average lengths (5, 20, 30, 50, 100, and 200) which can be toggled on or off to reduce chart clutter. When the price interacts with these levels on an intraday basis, it often signifies high-probability entry or exit areas.

Details

The script utilizes the request.security function to fetch price data from specific higher timeframes and calculate the moving averages. While most of the averages (20, 30, 50, 100, and 200) are requested from the Daily ('D') timeframe, the 5-period average is calculated using a 30-minute resolution to provide a more responsive short-term trend line. This implementation ensures that the values remain fixed and accurate even as the user changes their primary chart resolution from seconds to hours. This version was originally developed by @drshoe and has been refactored for optimized performance and visual clarity.

Does this indicator include alerts? Yes, the script includes built-in alert conditions for price crossovers and crossunders of the 5-period and 200-period moving averages to notify users of significant price movements.
